Alaska was the last state to build its own crime laboratory. In 1984 funds were appropriated by the 11th Alaska Legislature for the construction of a statewide forensic laboratory. In June 1986 the current 18,000 square foot facility was dedicated. The Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory provides forensic support to all law enforcement agencies in Alaska; with examinations and expertise in:
- Breath Alcohol,
- Blood Alcohol,
- Controlled Substances,
- Firearm/Toolmark,
- Biological Screening,
- DNA,
- Latent Fingerprints, and
- Crime Scene Investigation.
