- Teach children to cook safely
- Keep cooking surfaces clean
- Keep curtains, towels and pot holders away from hot surfaces

Flammable Material Storage
- Store flammables in an approved container in a locked cabinet
- Teach children to use products safely
Candle Safety
- Extinguish all candles when you leave the room or go to bed
- Consider purchasing battery powered candles
- Use candle holders that are sturdy and won't tip over easily
- Place candle holders in a safe area where it cannot be knocked over
- Keep hair and loose clothing away from the flame
- Keep candle wicks trimmed to one-quarter inch
- Extinguish candles when they burn down to within two inches of the holder

Cigarette Safety
- Ask smokers to smoke outside
- Provide a metal butt can for smokers
- Extinguish all smoking materials when you leave the room or go to bed
- Ensure that the cigarette is completely extinguished before putting in the trash
- Check all furniture for dropped cigarette butts before going to bed

- Wood Stoves - Make sure that your wood stove is installed properly
- Space Heaters - Space Heaters need Space - 3 feet on all sides and above
- Furnace - Keep the furnace well maintained and change filters regularly
- Chimney - Clean and inspect the chimney every fall
- Fire Places - Use a fire screen to prevent sparks from escaping

Electrical Safety
- Extension cords are for TEMPORARY use only
- Use outlets wisely - Do Not Overload
- Inspect appliance wires annually - Fix any exposed wires or broken plugs
- Make sure light bulbs wattage does not exceed lamp rating
