While attempting to locate Gary Brown, age 45 of Wasilla, Brown drove to the residence in his 2001 Silver Dodge Ram. Investigation revealed Brown was driving while license revoked and driving under the influence of alcohol. Brown has had two DUI convictions within the last 10 years, making this arrest a felony. Brown later refused to submit to a chemical test under the Alaska Complied Consent law. Brown was also arrested on his outstanding warrant; $500 for FTA on the original charges of Criminal Mischief IV and Criminal Trespass I, both involving Domestic Violence. Brown was remanded to the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on total $15,500 bail plus court approved third party. Text: On 1/09/2013 at approximately 1042 hours Palmer Patrol Troopers responded to a residence on Allison Court, Palmer following a report of a Burglary in progress. Investigation revealed the residence was being broken into when the homeowner returned and confronted the suspect. After a confrontation, the suspect who was later identified as James Sweeney, age 26 of Palmer, ran from the residence with stolen items valued over $2,000. The homeowner subdued Sweeney until Troopers arrived on scene and arrested Sweeney. The homeowner suffered minor injuries during the altercation. Further investigation revealed Sweeney was out on bail from a recent Burglary and Theft charge. Sweeney was arrested for Robbery in the Second Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Violating Conditions of Release. Sweeney was transported and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and held on $30,000 bail plus CATP. On scene, Troopers contacted Bethany Lawrence, age 24, of Wasilla. Lawrence denied Larue was in the residence and told Troopers she was unaware of his location. While speaking to Lawrence, Larue attempted to exit the residence from a back window and was placed under arrest. Lawrence was subsequently placed under arrest for first-degree hindering prosecution. Larue was remanded into the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility for failure to appear and comply with conditions of probation on the original charge of failure to stop for a police officer in the first degree and escape in the second degree. Larue was held on $27,500 bail. Lawrence was also remanded into the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on $2,500 bail with court approved third-party custodian. Investigation revealed Treffers was a respondent in a Long Term DVPO and had violated the conditions of that order by communicating with the petitioner. Treffers was placed under arrest for violating a DVPO and was remanded into the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was held with no bail. Subsequent investigation revealed 29YOA Mason Gilila of Bethel stole a green 1996 Honda 250 Recon fourwheeler from a Morgans Road residence. While doing so he reportedly ran over the leg of a juvenile male, was found to be under the influence of alcohol while driving, drove the four wheeler while his Alaska driver's license was revoked, and refused to submit to a chemical test when requested. During the course of the investigation, he attempted to assault a State Trooper. In addition, while being remanded after being arrested he struck a State Trooper with the jail cell door. Mason was charged with Vehicle Theft 1, Assault 2, Driving Under the Influence, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, Assault 4 x 2, and Driving While Revoked. Mason is being held pending arraignment and transport to Bethel. AST and an AWT Trooper who was in the area responded to investigate. Investigation revealed that Chad Lee Koktelash, age 24 of Nondalton, assaulted an adult female during an argument. Chad Koktelash was arrested, transported and remanded to the Bristol Bay Borough Detention Facility for Assault in the Fourth Degree (DV) and a probation violation. The man was being chased by Demitris Askoak 25, of New Stuyahok. The VPSO asked what was going on when Askoak turned and tackled the VPSO in his yard. The VPSO fought with Askoak briefly before retreating to his house to call for help. Askoak, who was intoxicated, began pounding on the VPSO's front door while screaming and yelling. The VPSO was able to call the Village Police officer for help. Askoak walked out in the front yard and stripped off all of his clothes and began attacking the VPSO's vehicle parked in the yard. The VPSO re-contacted Askoak who was now naked and standing in the street. Other residents were telling Askoak to put his clothes on. The VPO arrived and Askoak continued to fight and struggle while being arrested by the VPSO and VPO and injured the VPO by poking him in the eye. During the struggle Askoak defecated while he was thrashing around and got fecal matter on the three of them during the struggle. Askoak was taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault in the 4th degree on a police officer, resisting arrest, two counts of disorSderly conduct, harassment in the 1st degree and indecent exposure in the second degree. Askoak was remanded at the public safety office in New Stuyahok pending arraignment. The fourwheeler reportedly rolled over as a result. Both Casey and Anthony were medevaced to Bethel. Anthony is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries and Casey was released after evaluation. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Investigation continues. Author: NPZ0 Received Wednesday, January 09, 2013 2:09 PM and posted Wednesday, January 09, 2013 2:43 PM D Detachment ----------------------------------------- Location: Fairbanks Case Number: AK13001851 Type: Felony Assault, Vehicle Theft, Burglary, Elude/Evade Text: At 2353 hours on 1/8/2013, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks responded to a report of a felony assault in progress at a residence in the Chena-Ester Ditch Road area west of Fairbanks. Kyle Curtin, 26, and Cody Ladig, 33, both of Fairbanks broke into a residence and beat and strangled a 30-year-old Fairbanks man living there. Curtin and Ladig then stole a Chevrolet Silverado from the residence and fled, crashing in a ditch as Troopers arrived in the area. Curtin and Ladig then fled on foot. Ladig was quickly apprehended, however, Curtin continued to flee through the trees and stole a GMC Sierra in the area. Curtin drove to the end of a dead-end road where he left the vehicle and fled into the woods with troopers in pursuit. The foot pursuit covered approximately two miles in a wooded residential area and lasted almost an hour in sub-zero temperatures. Curtin lost both of the shoes he was wearing, but continued to flee through thick brush and knee-deep snow. Troopers ultimately caught up to Curtin. He was suffering from frostbite. He was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. Curtin was arrested promptly after his release and charged with felony assault, first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree vehicle theft and eluding or evading troopers. Ladig was charged with felony assault, first-degree burglary, one count of first-degree vehicle theft and eluding or evading troopers. The victim was taken to FMH for treatment of his injuries and has since been released. AK Wildlife Troopers Location: Sitka Case Number: AK13001751 Type: Undersize Personal Use King Crab Text: On 1/8/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post cited Alex Kernin, age 19 of Sitka for retaining undersize king crab. Investigation revealed Kernin took the four king crab in the Nakwasina Sound area. All four crab were less than the legal size of 7" across the carapace. The crab were seized and donated to a local charity. Bail is set at $310 in Sitka Court. Investigation revealed that an 18-year-old male was assaulted by four unidentified males before being shot in the leg. The four unidentified males left the area in a small silver car. The 18-year-old male was initially transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital and was later reported to be in stable condition. Drugs are suspected to be involved.
