A Detachment Location: Ketchikan Case number: 1AK13006602 Type: MVC - Injury and DUI Text: On 1/28/2013 at approximately 1645 hours, The Alaska State Troopers and the North Tongass Fire Department arrived at a single vehicle collision on the North Tongass Highway near Collins Road. Investigation revealed the vehicle was driven by a 43-year-old female from Ketchikan. She was driving southbound on the North Tongass Highway when she drove off the road and the vehicle came to rest in the front yard of a residence on Collins Road. The female was extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders and transported to the Ketchikan Medical Center for injuries. Subsequent investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The charge of DUI will be forwarded to the Ketchikan District Attorney's Office for review. AST later contacted the suspect, Ashley Abercrombie age 23 of Wasilla, during a traffic stop in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Abercrombie had attempted to take $20.33 worth of food items from the store without paying for them. Abercrombie was issued a misdemeanor citation for the original charge of Theft in the Fourth Degree and released at the scene with a promise to appear in court at a later date. Investigation revealed Sebastian Hedges, age 20 of Wasilla, had recklessly caused physical injury to a family member during the incident. Hedges was arrested for the original charge of Assault in the Fourth Degree and for an outstanding warrant he had for failure to appear to arraignment for the original charge of minor consuming alcohol. Hedges was transported to the MSPT facility in Palmer where he was held without bail. Medical and Rescue personnel responded from Shaktoolik. Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome was notified and sent a medivac to Shaktoolik. Huntington received serious but non life-threatening injuries in the crash and was ultimately medicvaced to Anchorage for treatment. The rider, Cody Larson, age 30 of Dillingham had reportedly left Dillingham early on the morning of 1-26-13 to check his trap line. As of 2324 hours, Larson had not returned yet. As soon as daylight came on 1-27-2013, AST / AWT initiated a SAR and began searching for Larson with aircraft and ground searchers. Larson was located at approximately 1028 hours. Larson had experienced mechanical problems with his snowmachine and was forced to spend the night in the wilderness. Larson was flown back to Dillingham and was reported to be in good condition. Further investigation by the Alaska State Troopers revealed Elachik strangled his girlfriend, causing her to seek medical treatment for her injuries.
