The homeowner reported that a Bulova women's watch valued at $800 and a women's engagement ring valued at $500 were stolen from his residence some time in January 2013. Investigation revealed Chad Kaska, age 42 of Colorado, was last seen at approximately 1300 hours on a snow machine. Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded and began a search via snowmachine and helicopter. After approximately 45 minutes of searching, Troopers found an abandoned snowmachine. Troopers quickly located Kaska attempting to hike to the roadway. Kaska was uninjured and was returned to his residence. Georgia Jackson, age 30 of Copper Center was eastbound on the Glenn Hwy. driving a 2010 Chrysler minivan when she struck an unoccupied 2004 Saturn which had been abandoned on the shoulder due to mechanical difficulty. The Saturn was towed from the scene. The owner of the Saturn, Jessica Mugford, age 18 of Glennallen was issued a citation for no proof of insurance. All subjects report wearing their seatbelts. A juvenile in the minivan was transported to Crossroad Medical Center with a complaint of neck and back pain. Investigation revealed Voyles to be driving a 1997 Ford pickup without a license. Voyles was issued a summons for driving in violation of instruction permit, and a citation for no proof of insurance. Troopers contacted passenger Jeffery Stephens, age 34 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Stephens was in possession of methamphetamine. Further investigation revealed Stephens had a gravity knife and metal knuckles concealed on his person and he failed to immediately notify troopers when contacted. Subsequently, Stephens was arrested for MICS 4th, MIW 4th, and MIW 5th X2. Stephens was remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial, and held without bail. Investigation led to the arrest of 78-year-old Sinka Zaukar who attempted to sexually assault a 45-year-old female Sleetmute resident. On 2-2-13 Zaukar was transported without incident to Aniak and subsequently transported to Bethel where he was remanded to YKCC without bail. Investigation revealed that Michael Bugbee (56 YOA of Cantwell) was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Bugbee was arrested for DUI and he later refused to provide a breath sample as required by law. Bugbee was booked into the Fairbanks Correctional Center on the charges of DUI and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test where he was held without bail. The snowmachine was released to a sober person on scene. Investigation revealed that Loren Howard (43 YOA of Anchorage) was riding an Arctic Cat snowmachine on the roadway when he lost control and the machine overturned. Howard wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Howard was transported from the scene to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for life threatening injuries. Alcohol is a factor in the crash. Investigation revealed John Lerandeau (51 YOA of Fairbanks) was driving his Chevy pickup northbound on the highway when his vision became obscured by a southbound car that had kicked up snow from the roadway. Lerandeau's vehicle rear ended a Kenworth semi truck that had slowed for a turning car, the semi was driven by Patrick Crandall (40 YOA of Wasilla). Lerandeau's vehicle was totaled as a result of the crash and towed from the scene. Lerandeau suffered minor injuries and refused EMS treatment. Seatbelts were worn by all parties involved, alcohol wasn't a factor. There were four occupants in the vehicle who were identified as Arthur Gray, 24, of Anchorage, Benjamin Lega, 19, of Anchorage, and an adult male and female from the Big Lake Area. The investigation revealed that Lega and Gray had kidnapped the other two occupants from their residence in Big Lake and were transporting them to Anchorage. One of the victims was handcuffed in the back seat at the time of the vehicle stop while the other victim was driving while being held at gunpoint. Troopers responded to the scene and transported the suspects to the Trooper Post at Mat-Su West. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation, Mat-Su Unit, responded to take over the investigation. According to the female victim, Gray and Lega entered her home and held her at gunpoint while they ransacked her home looking for money and drugs. They took prescription medications, two firearms, cash, and marijuana. While the home invasion was taking place, the female's boyfriend showed up. He was subsequently taken at gunpoint to his residence next door where his ATM card, cash, and a TV were taken. Gray and Lega attempted to use one of the stolen debit cards unsuccessfully in two different ATM machines. They were finally able to access an ATM machine with another stolen debit card near Wasilla. Gray and Lega were arrested and remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial. They were each charged with two counts of Kidnapping, two counts of Robbery, Two counts of Assault in the Third Degree, four counts of Theft in the Second Degree, two counts of burglary, and one count of Vehicle Theft in the First Degree. Lega was charged with an additional count of Providing False Information to a Police Officer. Gray was ordered held on a $500,000 bail, cash only, with a court approved third party custodian, and Lega was ordered held without bail. They are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, February 4, 2013. The driver was identified as Shannon C. Gregory, age 45, of Wasilla. An investigation revealed Gregory was operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest for DUI. Gregory was also found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended driver's license and was in possession of marijuana. Gregory was subsequently charged with driving with a suspended license and misconduct involving a controlled substance in the sixth degree.
