A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Ketchikan Case number: AK13009171 Type: VCOR x2, Probation Violation, Warrant Arrest Text: On 02/07/13 at approximately 2320 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted a red Chrysler van parked at Mountain Point Boat Launch. Investigation revealed that the driver, Christopher Davison, age 22, of Ketchikan was violating his conditions of release set by the Ketchikan Court by consuming alcohol. Davison was also found to be on Felony Probation. Further investigation revealed that the passenger Tiffany Howard, age 19, of Ketchikan had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Juneau for the original charge of Theft in the 4th Degree. Davison and Howard were arrested and transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center. Investigation revealed Filemon Ortega, age 80 of Wasilla, was traveling eastbound on Seldon Road, turning northbound onto Wasilla Fishhook Road in a green 2001 Subaru station wagon when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Ortega's vehicle collided nearly head-on with an oncoming maroon 2004 Toyota Prius operated by Michael Scheidemantle, age 56 of Wasilla. Scheidemantle was transported to MSRMC for treatment of minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. Ortega was cited for Failure to Yield and Scheidemantle was cited for not wearing a seat belt. Investigation determined that Ineqsuanaq Motter, age 46 of Glennallen was driving her Toyota SUV westbound on the Glenn Hwy when a moose stepped onto the highway. Motter attempted to avoid the moose but was unsuccessful. Motter was reported to be wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision and was uninjured in the collision. The moose was turned over to a local charity. Investigation determined that Fred Smith, age 53 of Delta was traveling northbound on the Richardson Hwy in his 2007 Freightliner when he was struck by another motorist attempting to pass. The second driver was identified as Larry Sinyon, age 56 of Chistochina. Both drivers were reported to be wearing their seatbelts and did not report any injuries. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Sinyon was cited for Improper Overtaking on the Left. Text: On 02/01/13 at about 1530 hours, Bethel AST received a report of an assault involving a snow machine that occurred in Newtok. Bethel AST responded and further investigation revealed that Kenneth John, 20 yoa, of Newtok, was intoxicated while operating his snow machine when he struck Tom Julius, 21 yoa, of Toksook Bay, who was walking at the time. Tom received minor injuries and did not need medical treatment. Further investigation revealed that Kenneth was on misdemeanor probation in court case 4BE-12-1251CR with an original charge of DUI and violated that probation by consuming alcohol. Kenneth had fled Newtok prior to AST arrival and charges will be forwarded against him. Further investigation revealed that Kasigluk Tribal Police Officers (TPO) were attempting to arrest Stanley Berlin, 48 yoa, of Kasigluk for a warrant when he exited his bedroom with a bolt action rifle to confront the TPOs. After a brief struggle, the TPOs were able to take the rifle from Stanley and take him into custody. The TPOs further observed that Stanley was intoxicated when he was in possession of the rifle. Stanley was transported to YKCC in Bethel for the warrant and will be further charged with Assault 3 and Misconduct Involving Weapons 4. The State of Alaska Fire Marshal's Office was notified of the incident and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Bethel AST responded and further investigation revealed that the 17 year old juvenile was intoxicated when he assaulted a 14 year old household member by biting him on the wrist causing pain and minor injuries. The 17 year old juvenile then got a 12ga. shot gun from within his residence and went outside and shot into the air 8 times. The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Bethel Youth Facility where he was remanded. E Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Kasilof Case number: AK13008990 Type: MVC-Damage Text: On 02-07-13 at approximately 1102 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle crash at mile 102 of the Sterling Highway. AST responded to the scene and investigation revealed Charles Hill, age 23 of Fairbanks, was driving southbound on the Sterling Highway in a 2012 Ford Expedition. As Hill attempted to turn off the roadway, he began sliding into oncoming traffic. Hill determined he would not be able to make the turn and veered back into his lane. Paris Cooper, age 20 of Kasilof, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet truck behind Hill and was unable to avoid Hill as he drove back into her lane of travel. Both vehicles were damaged and Hill was issued a citation for basic speed. Investigation revealed that a person sent a box of freight through a local air carrier to a person in Kipnuk. The parcel contained six 750 ml bottles of R&R Whiskey, which were seized. An investigation determined that Chikigak was checked in to fly to Alakanuk and that she was on un-supervised probation from a previous misdemeanor conviction. Investigators contacted Chikigak and seized a bottle of R&R Whiskey from her luggage. Chikigak was also determined to be intoxicated, which caused her to further be in violation of her probation. Chikigak is being charged with Alcohol Importation and Probation Violation.
