Investigation revealed that Akos Scheer, age 59, of Anchorage was southbound on the Glenn Highway when he struck a moose on the roadway in his 2005 Toyota Prius. No injuries were reported and Scheer was wearing his seatbelt. Vehicle sustained moderate front end damage and towed from the scene. Troopers contacted Shelton and multiple people inside of the building who hindered troopers ability to apprehend Shelton including: Darla Worcester, age 52 of Houston; Michael Kelley, age 43 of Wasilla; Brandon Miller, age 30 of Wasilla; Robert Pfleger, age 53 of Wasilla; and Echo Seagren, age 23 of Fairbanks. Subsequently, Shelton was arrested on the outstanding warrants and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where he was held with bail set at $10,000. Worcester, Kelley, Miller, Pfleger, and Seagren were also arrested on the charge of Hindering Prosecution and they were remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial, and held with bail set at $1,500 each. Investigation revealed Shawn D. Traini, age 42 of Palmer, was driving southbound on Parks Highway in a blue 2000 Ford Explorer when he swerved to avoid a vehicle changing lanes, lost control, and rolled over in the ditch. No injuries were sustained, Traini reported wearing a seat belt, and no citations have been issued. The vehicle was totaled in the collision and the other vehicle has yet to be identified. Investigation revealed Anthony Mattielli (47 YOA of Healy) assaulted a family member and broke items in the residence valued at approximately $8,000. Mattielli interfered with the call to Troopers and then drove from the residence. Mattielli was contacted on the Highway driving a Chevy truck where it was determined that he was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Mattielli was arrested and booked into the Fairbanks Correctional Facility on the charges of Criminal Mischief III, Assault IV, Interfering with DV report, DUI where he was held without bail. The body of a young girl was discovered in an arctic entry way at the Presbyterian Memorial Church. The girl was identified as Mackenzie Howard, 13 years of age, of Kake. Alaska State Troopers, investigators with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation as well as evidence technicians with the State of Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory responded to Kake to investigate the death. Upon initial scene assessment by investigators the death was treated like a homicide. Upon the completion of the scene investigation as well as the autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's office the death was confirmed to be a result of a homicide. Alaska Buruea of Investigation investigators and state troopers from numerous communities in the state spent the next 10 days conducting further interviews and evidence review and combining this work with information provided by the State of Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory, were able to identify a suspect in this investigation. That suspect, a 14 year old male from the community of Kake, has been subsequently placed in custody by the Alaska State Troopers and is being transported to a Department of Juvenile Justice holding facility in Ketchikan.
