Investigation revealed that Suanne Hart, age 50 of Glennallen was eastbound on the Glenn Hwy. in her 2004 Ford F150 when she lost control of the vehicle on icy pavement. The pickup left the roadway and overturned. Hart and her passenger were wearing their seatbelts and no injuries were reported. The pickup was towed from the scene. It was reported that a female walking in the road was hit by a snowmachine at a high rate of speed. Investigation revealed that Travis Schenker, age 21 of Wasilla was operating a snowmachine in a reckless manner and struck a pedestrian at a high rate of speed, causing non-life threatening physical injuries to a pedestrian. Schenker was issued a summons to appear in court on the charges of Reckless Driving and Assault 4th. Investigation revealed the driver, 20 yo Damion Silvasy of Wasilla, was driving while license revoked and had a $500 outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear on the original charge of driving while revoked. Silvasy was arrested, transported, and remanded for DWLR and issued a citation for failure to provide proof of insurance. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver. AST contacted the driver of the vehicle, Joleene Baird age 37 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Baird was driving while her license was in revoked status. Further investigation revealed Baird had 6 previous convictions for DWLR in Alaska. It was observed that Egnaty had bloodshot watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol about his breath and person as well as slurred speech. Investigation revealed that Egnaty was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Greist (age 28 from Selawik). Investigation revealed the VPO had responded to a residence after receiving a call for service and upon arrival at the residence was attacked, strangled, and beaten by Greist. The VPO was able to escape Greist and fled the residence. Troopers responded to Ambler and arrested Greist on one count of Assault III on a law enforcement officer and one count of Assault IV on a law enforcement officer. Greist was taken into custody without further incident. Greist was transported to the Kotzebue Regional Jail where he was remanded into custody pending arraignment. Alcohol is a factor in this case. At 0352 hours, TPO Nick located the stolen snowmachine at the New Manokotak apartments. There were three males standing around the snowmachine. Investigation revealed that Austin Waldron, age 18 of Manokotak had stolen the snowmachine. Investigation also revealed that Waldron had been drinking alcohol while under the age of 21 and that Waldron was in possession of alcohol in a "dry" local option community. Austin Waldron was placed under arrest and was transported to the Dillingham Jail. At approximately 0003 hours Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue located Adams at a shelter cabin south of Kivalina where he took shelter after running out of fuel. Mayeur attempted to avoid the moose but was unable to. The vehicle struck the moose and then the guardrail. The vehicle came to rest in the southbound lane of the highway. Mayeur sustained no injuries and was wearing his seatbelt. The vehicle is a total loss. The moose walked away from the area. An parcel package bore several indicators of containing contraband. With the utilization of AST's drug scent detection K-9 Duncan, probable cause was obtained for a federal search warrant, which was obtained and the parcel was searched. Subsequently, the parcel was found to contain approximately 3,696 grams (8.14lbs) of marijuana. In Anchorage, this amount would carry a "street value" of approximately $36,960. Out of city areas, such as western Alaska, the value would be approximately $184,800. An interview with the parcel's intended recipient yielded admissions. An investigation continues. AK Bureau of Highway Patrol --------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Talkeetna Case Number: AK13013175 Type: Motor Vehicle Crash Department Vehicle / Injured Trooper Text: On 2/24/13, at approximately 1925 hours, Troopers received a report of a two-vehicle crash near mile 90 of the Parks Highway involving an AST patrol vehicle and another vehicle. Palmer Patrol Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and BHP Troopers responded to the scene. An investigation showed that Trooper Kevin Blanchette, assigned to Talkeetna Post, was turning around on the highway to respond to a call reporting a REDDI. As Trooper Blanchette was making a U-turn his vehicle was struck by a pickup driven by Michael Stevenson, age 20 of Talkeetna. Both Trooper Blanchette and Stevenson were transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The patrol vehicle is an estimated total loss. Stevenson's vehicle sustained significant damage and both vehicles were towed from the scene. BHP has assumed case responsibility and the investigation is ongoing.
