A Detachment Location: Ketchikan Case number: AK13027733 Type: MICS 6th Degree Text: On 04/27/13 at 1638 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan conducted a traffic stop on a red pick-up truck for an equipment violation near the intersection of North Tongass Highway and Pond Reef Road. Investigation revealed that the driver, Jeremy Thompson, age 25 of Ketchikan was in possession of Marijuana and paraphernalia. Thompson was issued a summons to appear in court for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 6th Degree and released at the scene. Alan Hunter, age 56 of Kake, was hunting with another resident from Kake when they got separated and Hunter became lost. Hunter was able to call for help on his cell phone and Kake SAR was able to get his GPS coordinates from his cell phone. Four members responded to the area and at 2330 hours, Hunter was located adjacent to a forest service road and was transported safely back to Kake. Hunter was cold, but uninjured. Upon arrival officers contacted Dallas Goelz, age 21 of Wasilla. Goelz was arrested for trespassing in the 2nd degree and drunken person on a licensed premises. Investigation revealed Kevin K. McManus, age 20 of Wasilla, was in possession of a schedule IA controlled substance and marijuana. Further investigation revealed McManus was also in possession of two firearms. McManus was arrested for MICS IV, MICS VI, and MIW II. McManus was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded and held on a $5000 appearance bond plus a CATP. Bobby was arrested for DV Assault in the Fourth Degree and transported without incident to Aniak. Upon arrival an investigation revealed a female brown bear was acting erratically by attacking a vehicle, a telephone pole, and then eventually attacking a male walking on the beach. The male suffered minor injuries to his arm. Troopers went down the beach to warn other beach walkers of the bear and to locate the bear. Two Troopers were walking the tree line near the last known location of the bear when it came running out of the woods towards Troopers. The two Troopers responded by shooting the bear. The deceased bear was released to a local charity.
