A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Naukati Case number: AK13027930 Type: Assault III on LEO, Assault IV DV, DWLR Text: On 4-28-2013 at approximately 1251 hours, Klawock AST was advised of a domestic disturbance in progress at a residence in the Community of Naukati on Prince of Wales Island. The suspect identified as Gregory Richter, 50-years old of Naukati, was reported to have left the scene prior to AST arriving in the area. Subsequent investigation revealed that Richter had assaulted a family member and had driven a motor vehicle with a revoked driver's license. During the investigation Richter made repeated death threats to the responding Troopers. Richter had also made death threats to Klawock AST Troopers on two previous occasions. Richter was located in Naukati and arrested without incident. He was transported to the Craig City Jail where he was remanded on charges of Assault in the Third Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree DV and Driving while License Revoked. He was held without bail. Alcohol seems to be a contributing factor in this incident. Investigation revealed the driver was 22-year-old Aaron McColley of Ketchikan. McColley could not produce a valid driver's license and was issued a summons for Driving While License is suspended. McColley was also found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and was issued a summons for Misconduct involving a controlled substance in the 6th degree. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver at the scene. Upon arrival AST contacted 25-year-old Kaelee Kleinschmidt-Wright of Ketchikan. Investigation showed that Kaelee Kleinschmidt-Wright was on Felony Probation and one of her conditions of probation was not to be intoxicated beyond a level of .08. Kaelee Kleinschmidt-Wright submitted to a PBT breath test which showed a breath alcohol level over the level set by the Probation Conditions. AST contacted the Adult Probations Office who advised that K. Kleinschmidt-Wright was to be remanded to KCC for the alcohol violation. Troopers contacted Devin Newman, age 21 of Wasilla. Newman was found to be in possession of amphetamines and was arrested for MICS in the 4th degree. Kimmel was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for 2nd Degree Theft. Kimmel's co-defendant, 27-year-old Kodiak resident Walter Thane Erickson, was arrested two days earlier on, 4-27-13, when he was located at his residence. Prior to their arrests, on 4-25-13, both Kimmel and Erickson were indicted by a Kodiak Grand Jury on multiple counts of 2nd Degree Theft ( Class C Felonies) resulting from a 3-24-13 AST investigation into the theft of 2219 pounds of brass and copper from a Kodiak metal recycling business (AK13019735). The estimated value of the brass and copper was $5,744.60. Kimmel's and Erickson's bail was set at $5,000 cash and a court approved third party custodian. An investigation showed that Dana assaulted his younger sister and further consumed a large quantity of homebrew alcohol. Dana was later arrested and remanded to Anvil Mountain Correctional Center in Nome. The victim sustained minor injuries which required medical treatment. The VPO responded and while trying to calm Shelikoff down was assaulted by Shelikoff, who then ran away but was seen a short while later going back to his parents residence. Again contact was made with Shelikoff who again assaulted the VPO, Shelikoff's father assisted in getting him restrained and when he was being brought to the VPO vehicle Shelikoff ran away again. A short time later another VPO found Shelikoff hiding nearby. He was lodged at the St. Michael jail and then transported to Nome for arraignment and lodged at AMCC. He is charged with two counts of Assault in the Fourth Degree, Resisting Arrest, Escape in the Fourth Degree and a Probation Violation. Text: On 04/29/2013 approximately 16:12 hours, the Alaska State Troopers (AST) observed 52-year-old Jeffrey Skelly standing in his driveway on Cheri Way. AST knew Skelly to have several active warrants for his arrest. Skelly saw the trooper car and ran behind his house. Skelly was located behind a tree and arrested without further incident. Skelly's three warrants were for failing to return to jail or serve jail time from three different driver's license offenses. Skelly was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center (FCC). The boy was found only wearing a T-shirt. An investigation revealed his care taker, David Holt, 39, of Kenai, had fallen asleep and the boy left the residence unsupervised. Alcohol was involved. Holt was arrested and was transported to Wildwood Pretrial where he was remanded for one count of Reckless Endangerment and was held for $500 bail. The child was released to his parents uninjured. AST responded and further investigation revealed Rachel Gauthier, age 38 of Kasilof, was driving southbound on the Sterling Highway in a 2010 Ford Escape near mile 104.5 of the highway. A moose walked out in front of her vehicle and she was unable to avoid the moose. A collision occurred, which caused major damage to her vehicle. Gauthier's vehicle was towed from the scene and the Alaska Moose Federation picked up the moose to donate to charity. Gauthier was not injured as she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver was identified as Daniel Corbett, age 29 of Fairbanks. A check of APSIN revealed that Corbett's license to drive is currently revoked and he has an IID device requirement. The vehicle Corbett was driving did not have the required IID device installed. Corbett was arrested for DWLR and driving in violation of a restricted license. Corazza was allowed to operate 30 shrimp pots on his fishing vessel, and the investigation revealed Corazza operated 58 pots. Canlas age 53, of Anchorage pled guilty to one count each of Over Bag Limit-Deer and Unlawful Possession and Transportation. Additional charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement through the Sitka District Attorney's Office. Canlas was fined a total of $4000 with $2100 suspended, ordered to pay $800 in restitution, his hunting and trapping privileges were revoked until 4/23/14, and he was placed on probation for two years. Canlas also was ordered to forfeit a rifle used in the commission of the offenses as well as; deer meat, capes, and antlers, seized during the investigation. The charges stem from an investigation in Sitka which, in part, showed Canlas had taken at least four deer over limit for himself and a proxy in the Sitka area, in 2011. Canlas unlawfully possessed and transported the over limit of deer to Anchorage. Incident to the contact, the travelers baggage was seized in anticipation of obtaining a search warrant. On 4/28/2013 a search warrant was obtained and served on the baggage. Approximately 101 grams of marijuana was found and seized. A suspect has been identified and a case report will be forwarded to the Bethel District Attorney's Office. Investigation complete. A passenger in the Pontiac was identified as Tanner D. Dutcher, age 24, of Wasilla. An investigation revealed Dutcher had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Anchorage for failing to satisfy judgment stemming from an arrest for driving without insurance. At the same time Anchorage Police Department were fielding reports from citizens of the two trucks traveling at high rates of speed. Troopers and responding APD officers were able to conduct traffic stops on both trucks. The drivers were identified as a 16-year-old and 17-year-old Anchorage males. An investigation revealed both juveniles were operating their respective vehicles after consuming an alcoholic beverage. Both juveniles were issued summons to appear in court at a later date for minors operating after consuming alcohol and minor consuming. Both were released on scene after parents were contacted. A third juvenile was also found to have been consuming alcoholic beverages and charges for MCA will be forwarded. Both drivers were issued speeding citations as well.
