The victim was assaulted and was transported to Cross Road Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained during the assault. The suspect was identified as Edward Billum, age 57 of Copper Center. Investigation determined that Julia McConkey, age 31 of Copper Center had struck another vehicle as she was backing out of a driveway. Further investigation determined that McConkey had been driving under the influence of alcohol. McConkey failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. McConkey was also cited for improper backing. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. McConkey was transported to Glennallen AST pending arraignment. AST arrived on scene and determined that Jordan Rhodes, age 21 of Wasilla was driving a 1996 Corolla northbound when he fell asleep and drifted off the roadway and rolled. Rhodes had a passenger in the vehicle identified as Kyler Worth, age 19 of Wasilla. Copper River EMS arrived on scene and transported Worth and Rhodes to Cross Road Medical Center for treatment of injuries received in the crash. Rhodes was cited for failing to exercise due care to avoid a collision and failing to wear his seatbelt. Alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in this case. It was reported that Simon Gatpan, 31 yoa of Santa Clara Calif., was found unresponsive on the beach near the Trident cannery. Gatpan was transported to the clinic and at approximately 0825 hours, was pronounced deceased. Alaska State Troopers, including an investigator with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, will respond from Anchorage on 5/5/13 to investigate. Gatpan's body will be sent to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine cause of death. Investigation revealed that a 16-year-old male from Nenana had been driving his 1990 Volvo station wagon south on the Parks highway accompanied by a passenger when he lost control of his vehicle on an icy corner and collided with the southbound guard rail. No injuries were reported and both occupants of the vehicle reported wearing seat belts. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at approximately $2,000 while very minor damage was observed to the guard rail. Stewart contacted an employee at a business in Girdwood and started to be antagonistic to the employee. During the argument the employee told Stewart several times to leave the business property.
