A Detachment ------------------------------------------------------- Location: Haines Case: AK13030249 Type: Warrant Arrest Text: On 5/8/2013 the Alaska State Troopers assisted the Ogden Police Department (Ogden, Utah) with the apprehension and arrest of Stephen Ellenwood, 40 yoa of Haines, on an outstanding arrest warrant. The investigation revealed an arrest warrant was issued by the State of Utah for the original charge of Criminal Homicide, Aggravated Murder. Ellenwood was taken into custody shortly after he fled from Troopers and tried to hide in the woods near his residence on Allen Road in Haines. The Ogden Police Department was assisted by the Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and the Haines Police Department. Subsequent investigation reveal ed that Brent Smith, 44 years old of Craig, had been operating a Northland Freightliner Semi on the Naukati Detour Road when Stephen Mccord, 60 years old of Naukati, met on the one lane road and were not able to yield to each other. The passenger side front end of Mccord's 1991 Dodge Pickup collide d with the passenger side front end of the Northland Semi causing moderate but functional damage to both vehicles. All parties claimed to be wearing their seatbelts and no injuries were reported. Both vehicles were able to drive away from the scene. Alcohol does not seem to be a factor in this in cident. Hayfield Rd, near Wasilla. The subjects were located and the Central Mat-Su Dive Team responded to remove the subjects and provide medical attention. Carlos Deleon, age 48 of Anchorage was northbound on the Glenn Hwy in a 2005 Chevy Suburban when he lost control on the slick snow covered road at mile 172.5. A Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue hasty -team was sent out from Selawik and located the couple near the Noorvik cha nnel. The men were Casey Lewis 41 yrs. and Pat Pavila 61 yrs. Andrew found Lewis in the village at 1500 hours and he said he'd left Pavila on the trail after Pavila jumped off the snowmachine. Lewis said Pavila was on the ground so he felt his chest and there was no heartbeat. Andrew notified AST. Two hasty teams with two snowmachine riders each rode out on trails, while an AST state pilot flew out to search. At 1900 hours, Pavila was found walking on the Kuskokwim River trail due west of Tuntutuliak. He was uninjured and in good health. Pavila reported he'd left Lewis passed out, to walk home. He'd walked to the trail when he heard the aircraft. Alcohol was a factor. Upon contacting a passenger in the vehicle, Dora Ahgook, age 23 of Fairbanks had an outstanding arrest warrant. The original charge was Assault 4th degree. Further investigation disclosed Ahgook was violating her conditions of release in the same case by consuming alcohol. Further investigation disclosed Matthew Chetwood, age 35 of Fairbanks who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also on conditions of release. Chetwood was violating his conditions or release by consuming alcohol. Ahgook and Chetwood were later remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional center with no bail. Investigation revealed Caroline Gary, age 19, Thomas Vaughn, age 20 and a 17-year-old female, all of Allakaket, broke into the city office through a window and removed the safe. With the assistance of Trevor Williams, age 25, also of Allakaket, they broke open the safe and removed cash, money orders and checks. Grey, Vaughn, and Williams were arrested on charges related to the theft and burglary. All were remanded to FCC in Fairbanks pending Arraignment. Additional charges will be referred to the Dept. of Juvenile Justice for the juvenile's involvement in the case.
