A Detachment --------------------------------------------------------- Location: Juneau Case Number: AK13031382 Type: Assault III Text: On 05/11/13 at 1510 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Juneau responded to a report of an Assault at Lemon Creek Correctional Center. Investigation revealed two male inmates were involved in a physical altercation when one inmate bit off a portion of the other inmate's ear. The victim was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for medical treatment. Charges of Assault in the Third Degree will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office. Beaver Ave. in Wasilla for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival Troopers contacted Barry T. James, Age 57 of Wasilla. Investigation determined James had driven to the scene while impaired by alcohol and on a revoked driver's license. James was arrested for DUI. At the Palmer Police Department James subsequently refused to submit to a breath test. Investigation also revealed James had been convicted twice in the proceeding 10 years of DUI. Anderson age 52 of Wasilla at a parking lot near the corner of Bogard Road and Seldon Road in Wasilla regarding suspicious activity. Investigation revealed, Anderson was driving without a valid license. Anderson was arrested and transported to Mat Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded and held on $250 bail. AST, Mat-Su EMS and Mat-Su Animal Control responded to the scene. A Life Med helicopter was on scene when AST arrived. Investigation revealed that the girl's family was out on the property feeding and tending to their eight canines when the 2-year old was attacked. The girl's mother was able to get the canine off of her daughter, at which time the canine attacked the child again. When EMS arrived on scene the child was unresponsive. Life Med transported her to Providence Hospital in Anchorage where she is in stable condition. Mat-Su Animal Control took the canine that attacked the child from the property. No foul play is suspected and it appears the attack is accidental. Investigation revealed David Alward, age 73 of Willow, had died of natural causes. The SME responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Kehl's Mortuary in Palmer responded to provided final services for Alward at the family's request. Next of kin was notified and no foul play was suspected. AST subsequently arrested Carl Garry Hansen, 53 of Ekwok after he threatened to kill a female adult while he was intoxicated. Hansen was transported and remanded at the Dillingham Jail. Troopers responded and were able to make contact with the female outside of the residence. Phone contact had been established with the suspect who was identified as Ralph N. Wells, age 32, of Delta Junction. Ralph N. Wells at the time had an outstanding $20,000 warrant for assault in the 2nd degree for an incident that took place earlier that month. The victim was transported away from the scene. AST obtained an additional no bail warrant for Ralph N. Wells for assault in the 2nd degree, and assault in the 4th degree. The Alaska Fugitive Task Force responded to the Delta Junction Area to locate and arrest Ralph N. Wells for his outstanding warrants. With the assistance of Delta Junction Trooper and Fairbanks Troopers, Ralph N. Wells was arrested at approximately 2100 on 5/10/2013 after he fled into his residence and hid underneath the residence, which was accessed by a hole in the floor. Ralph N. Wells was non-compliant with verbal commands to exit the hole until a K-9 unit arrived on scene. Ralph Wells was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded to custody. AST contacted Micah Monroe (32 yoa of Fairbanks) and arrested pursuant to open arrest warrants. Monroe provided a false name to the trooper and he was also driving while his license was revoked. Monroe was transported to FCC where he was remanded on the warrants, the new crimes of; False Information and DWLS. AST arrested Norman F. Lowery (35 yoa of Fairbanks) for damaging sheetrock, and televisions inside a residence following a domestic disturbance. Total damage to property was estimated between $500 and $3000. Lowery was charged with Criminal Mischief and he was transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center. Further reports indicated that the driver of the bulldozer, Donald Kiehl (age 72 from North Pole), was deceased on scene. State Troopers were able to secure transportation to the scene with a helicopter that was operating in the area. Investigation revealed that a crew of men were transporting equipment and machinery to the Stephan Lake Lodge to do some contract work. At approximately 1730 hours, as the crew was crossing a low mountain, the D6 Caterpillar driven by Kiehl broke through the ice on an alpine lake and sank. Kiehl was retrieved from the lake and individuals on scene attempted CPR on Kiehl but he was unable to be resuscitated. The State Medical Examiner's Office was contacted and requested the body be sent to Anchorage for autopsy. Next of kin has been notified. No foul play is suspected at this point but investigation is continuing. The driver was identified as Stephanie Tate, age 35 of Anchorage, and one of the passengers was identified as Chelsea Soares, age 20 of Anchorage. A third male passenger provided a false name. During the stop the third male passenger fled the scene of the stop on foot and ran into the woods. The male was later identified as James Hendrickson, age 28 of Anchorage. A records check revealed Hendrickson had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Soares was on felony probation and her Probation Officer reqested her to be arrested for Petition To Revoke Probation. During the arrest Soares was found to have suspected drugs in her possession. Soares was remanded to the Anchorage Jail. AST investigation revealed a 23 yoa male, had a negligent discharge with a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol that struck both he and another 22 yoa male. The 23 yoa male was treated at the Central Peninsula Hospital for his injuries while the 22 yoa male was transported to Anchorage via Life Med for treatments for his injuries. AST is continuing the investigation. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the incident. AK Bureau of Highway Patrol ------------------------------------------------- Location: Wasilla Case: AK13031201 Type: DWLR Text: On 05-10-13 at 2035 hours, Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol observed a person riding a Honda Big Bear ATV on the pedestrian/bike path near mile 49 of the Parks Hwy within the Traffic Safety Corridor. The ATV passed two children riding bicycles. Troopers contacted the driver and identified him as Harold Leonard Johnson age 55 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Johnson's driver's license had been revoked for Driving While License Revoked. Johnson's license is revoked through 2022. Johnson was arrested for Driving While License Revoked. Johnson was also issued a citation for riding his ATV on a pedestrian/bike path.
