A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Thorne Bay Case number: AK12234423 Type: Death Investigation Text: On 9-9-2012 at approximately 1043 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Klawock were notified of the death of Kent Nicholson, 48 years old of Thorne Bay. Nicholson was discovered in his residence by a friend. Troopers and VPSO responded to the scene where subsequent investigation revealed that Kent had passed away from natural causes. The body is being sent to the State Medical Examiners Office for Autopsy. Next of kin has been notified and no foul play is suspected. Next of kin have been notified and the facts surrounding Smith's death are still under investigation. Troopers remain in Kiana while continuing the investigation. Troopers are seeking to contact with anyone that may have further information and ask they contact the Alaska State Troopers in Kotzebue at 442-3222. (Original release) On 9/7/12 at approximately 2128 hour, Kotzebue AST were notified of a suspicious death in the village of Kiana. Dolly Smith, approximately 70 of Kiana, was discovered deceased. Troopers responded to the village. Anchorage ABI also has sent two investigators to the village to assist with the investigation. This is an ongoing investigation. Text: On 9/8/12 at approximately 1600 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Massa Carilyn Nukwak, age 40 of Dillingham, at one of the local air taxis after the flight company advised troopers they found ten 750 ML bottles of alcohol in Nukwak's checked baggage. Nukwak had reservations to travel from Dillingham to Twin Hills. Twin Hills is a dry village. The alcohol was seized and investigation is on-going. A search party was quickly launched from Platinum and Richard Ross, 57, of Goodnews Bay, and Sam Pavala, 49, of Goodnews Bay, were spotted in the water by a Yute Aviation pilot that was dropping of passengers in the area. The rescue party was guided to the men who were pulled from the water, and taken to the clinic in Platinum. Both were pronounced dead at the Pl atinum Clinic after all resuscitation efforts were exhausted by the health aides. Angela Chingliak, 28, of Goodnews Bay was reported missing. On 09/07/12, the Alaska State Troopers arrived in Platinum to investigate, coordinate a search effort for Angela and contact the families of those involved. Th e bodies of Ross, and Pavala were sent to the State Medical Examiner's Offi ce in Anchorage to determine the cause of death. The boat was located during a search of the bay, submerged in 10' of water. The cause as to why the boat sank is still under investigation, while a n aerial and surface search continues for Angela. Later on 9/9/12, Troopers received another report about another vehicle having been broken into the night of 9/8/12. A cavalry saber was stolen from it. The vehicle was located on Woodridge Drive. Investigation revealed that a white Ford Explorer was traveling south on Badger Road when it encountered a sudden onslaught of precipitation. While attempting to slow down, the vehicle lost traction, slid to the right of the roadway and over turned on the roadside. Both the driver and the passenger were wearing there seat belts. Investigation revealed that Emily Brown , age 18 of Soldotna, was turning into the Soldotna Transfer site when she turned left in front of James Culhane age 58 of Kasilof. Troopers receive reports dail y of people using weighted treble hooks to snag fish in the area closed to snagging. Snagging is prohibited on and within 150 feet of the Channel W ayside fishing dock. Troopers have also been receiving complaints of people fishing after 9:00 PM in the spillway below the hatchery, which is closed to all fishing. The following subjects were contacted and cited during t he patrol; Jeremy Zellner, age 32 of Colorado, was issued a $110 bailable citation for sport fishing in closed waters. Anthony Manacio, age 29 of Juneau, was issued a $110 bailable citation for sport fishing in closed waters. Hanibal Eala, age 45 of Juneau was contacted 2330 PM and issued a $110 bail able citation for sport fishing in closed waters and a $130 for retaining a snagged coho salmon. Troopers seized Eala's fishing pole and a head lam p he was using to spot salmon in the area closed to fishing. Terry Flinders, age 60 of Juneau was contacted at 2330 PM and issued a $110 bailable citation for fishing with a snag hook in the area closed to snagg ing. Flinders fishing pole was also seized. Zachary Gray, age 23 of Juneau, was issued a $130 for retaining a snagged c oho salmon. Christopher Demmert, age 31 of Juneau, was issued a $150 citation for retai ning two snagged coho salmon.
