Initial reports indicated that Jay Hammerbacher, 38 yoa of Cordova was goat hunting when he fell from a mountain he was climbing. Hammerbacher's hunting partner, Lance Uselm an, 27 yoa of Cordova climbed to Hammerbacher and discovered that he was un conscious. With the assistance from another hunting party in the area they confirmed that Hammerbacher was dead. Due to high winds and quickly deteri orating weather AST Helo 1 was unable to fly. The body is still on the m ountain and AST is waiting for a break in the weather to recover Hammerbach er. All the other hunters were able to return safely. The next of kin have been notified. The SME has been notified and reques ted that the body be transported to Anchorage for an autopsy. This investi gation is continuing.
