Investigation revealed that Marvin Charles Jr, age 33 of Ketchikan, was intoxicated and causing a disturbance. M. Charles Jr. was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center. Alcohol was a factor. Troopers responded from Ketchikan and Klawock posts and assumed case responsibility at the request of the local police department. Investigation revealed that Leona Meely (67) of Metlakatla died in a residence in Metlakatla. Next of kin have been notified. The investigation is continuing. Text: On 09/29/12 at 0832 hours the VPSO in Kake responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with the stairway at the Kake Store. Further investigation revealed that 18 year old Corey David James-Kadake was operating a 1990 Isuzu Trooper under the influence of alcohol when the vehicle struck the stairs. A minor female passenger was identified who was cited for Minor Consuming. James-Kadake was arrested and charged with DUI, Minor Consuming, Reckless Endangerment, Failure to Give Immediate Notice of an Accident, and Failure to Carry Insurance. James-Kadake was also cited for Expired Registration. No injuries were reported. Troopers responded from Ketchikan and Klawock posts and assumed case responsibility at the request of the local police department. After search warrants were obtained and served; investigation revealed that a physical altercation had taken place in a residence on 8th Street. Leona Meely (67) of Metlakatla died from injuries sustained in that incident. William Buxton (29), who also lives at the residence, was developed as a suspect early in the investigation. Buxton was ultimately charged with Murder in the first degree; transported to and incarcerated at the Ketchikan Correctional Center. The remains will be transported to Anchorage for an autopsy to determine cause of death. Troopers are still on scene and the investigation is continuing. Investigation revealed Sean M. Riley, age 19 of Wasilla, drove his 197 4 Dodge van into the back of a 1994 GMC pickup being driven by Brianne Bohn , age 19 of Wasilla, while she was attempting to turn left into a driveway. Both drivers sustained minor injuries and both vehicles were considered totaled. Riley was cited for the collision. Text: On 9/29/12 at approximately 0300 hours Alaska State Troopers arrested Robert R. Skoog, 29, of Houston and Karey L. Millard, 38, of Houston. Skoog was arrested for two counts of MICS 4th, False Information, an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest for the original charge of Theft 4th, and DWLS after he was contacted driving a 2001 Chevrolet truck near Big Lake Rd. and attempted to provide a false name to Troopers in an effort to avoid being arrested for the outstanding warrant. Additionally Skoog was found to be in possession of Schedule 1A and 2A controlled substances at the time of the stop. Millard was arrested for Hindering Prosecution after she aided Skoog in his attempt to avoid being arrested for the outstanding warrant. Both Millard and Skoog were transported to Mat-Su Pretrial facility where Skoog was held on $6000 bail and Millard was released on her own recognizance. He was charged with one count of taking a Black bear during the closed season on Prince of Wales Island and taking that Black bear without a harvest ticket. Hall was also charged with two counts of knowingly making a false statement on a 2012 sport fishing license and King salmon stamp, and one charge of negligently making a false statement on a 2012 hunting license. The taking of a Black bear during the closed season and two counts of knowingly making a false statement on licenses are misdemeanor charges. The taking of a Black bear without a harvest ticket carries a set bail of $160 and the negligently making a false statement on a hunting license charge carries a set bail of $310. Hall was summonsed to appear in the District Court of Ketchikan. Author: MJF9 Received Saturday, September 29, 2012 10:29 AM and posted Saturday, September 29, 2012 10:37 AM ------------------------------------------------- Location: Grayling Case number: AK 12238772 Type: Search & Rescue Text: On 9-27-2012 Alaska State Troopers received a report that on 9-24-2012 Michael Hamilton, age 50, and Edgar Rock, age 52, both from Grayling, left Grayling in a 18ft. boat and headed north on the Yukon River. They planned to return the night of 9-24-12 but had yet to return or be heard from. AST contacted villages along the Yukon River in an attempt to locate the two men, but were unsuccessful. Due to poor weather conditions on the river a river based search was not possible. An AST aircraft was able to fly over the area but did not see any signs of the men or their boat and search efforts were suspended until the next morning. On 9-28-2012 a Civil Air Patrol aircraft and an Alaska Wildlife Trooper aircraft were launched to continue the search of the area. At approximately 1216 hours, an overturned boat was located approximately six miles north of Grayling. The Alaska Wildlife Trooper aircraft began searching the area as local search and rescue volunteers arrived at the boat and at approximately 1447 hours, the AWT aircraft located Rock on a sand bar alive and well. At approximately 1507 hours, Hamilton was located near the village of Grayling alive and well and both were transported back to Grayling. Investigation revealed that on the night of 9-24-2012 as Rock and Hamilton were returning to Grayling their boat was overturned by waves.
