Investigation determined that Terry Hicks, 50 of Copper Center was driving his Dodge Durango when the front left tire fell off the vehicle and struck a Ford Focus driven by Loreen Kramer, 53 of Copper Center. Kramer was transported to Cross Road Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. Hicks stated that he had recently had his tires changed. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 29-year-old Abner L. Nelson III of Port Lions. Investigation revealed Nelson was under the influence and impaired by alcohol. The VPSO responded to a village residence and conducted an investigation. As a result, 20-year-old Akhiok resident Alyssa Brenteson, was arrested for 4th Degree Assault on the 6-year old. The incident was considered domestic violence because Brenteson and the victim are related. Brenteson was housed at the village holding cell until the following morning when she was transported by air taxi to the Kodiak City Jail. Investigation revealed that driver Michael Benson, age 26 of Fairbanks was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer when he turned left in front of oncoming traffic. Benson collided with a 2001 GMC driven by Wyoma Knight, age 42 of Fairbanks. Driver Wyoma Knight was not wearing her seat belt at the time of collision. Wyoma Knight and her passenger were both transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for apparent minor injuries and the vehicle was towed from the scene. BPD officers were called to a disturbance at a home in Bethel which resulted in an officer fatally shooting an adult male. Three Bethel Alaska State Troopers responded and assisted in securing the scene. Alaska Bureau of Investigations (ABI) personnel flew to Bethel on 10/3/12, arriving at approximately 0600 hours. Investigators are currently in the process of investigating the incident and processing the scene. Identity of the deceased will be released upon confirmation of his identity and next of kin notification is accomplished. The deceased is expected to be transported to Anchorage to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. The Investigator contacted the suspect, who was identified as Anita Virden, age 44 of Big Lake. Investigation revealed that Virden had sold Hydrocodone and marijuana to another female. Virden was arrested for MICS Third Degree and MICS Fifth Degree. The other female was also found to have a revoked drivers license. Charges for MICS Fourth Degree, MICS Sixth Degree and DWLR will be forwarded to the Palmer District Attorney's Office on her. A passenger in one of the vehicles was identified as Daniel Derr, age 33 of Houston. Investigation revealed that Derr had a warrant for his arrest for failure to comply with alcohol screening on a DUI charge. Virden was remanded in to MSPT, where bail was set at $7,500 plus a court approved third party custodian. Derr was remanded into MSPT, where bail was set at $1,500. AK Bureau of Highway Patrol ----------------------------------------- Location: Milepost 15.5 Kenai Spur Highway Case Number: AK12239974 Type: MVC-Serious Injury Text: On 10-02-12 at 1448 hours the Soldotna Public Safety Communication Center received 911 calls reporting a crash near milepost 15.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Alaska State Troopers from BHP and Patrol responded to and investigated the crash. Investigation revealed a 1992 Ford F250 driven by Alicia Castillo, age 33 of Soldotna was stopped on the Kenai Spur Highway, facing south, preparing to turn left into a driveway. A southbound 1992 Subaru driven by C. Eileen Rinc, age 88 of Kenai, failed to stop for the Ford. The Subaru sideswiped the Ford and became lodged in the wheel well area of the Ford. Rinc suffered serious injuries in the crash. Castillo and her passenger, Darren Campbell, age 33, of Soldotna were treated for non-life threatening injuries at CPH. The northbound lane of the Kenai Spur Highway was blocked during the investigation but traffic was re-routed through a parking lot. The southbound lane was partially blocked but was not closed to traffic. The Kenai Spur Highway was opened completely at 1930 hours. The Bureau of Highway Patrol has taken case responsibility for the crash. The investigation is continuing.
