A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Juneau Case number: AK12241700 Type: Search and Rescue Text: 2035 hours, the Juneau Police Department notified the Alaska State Troopers that a 46-year-old man, Jamie Hurtt, of Juneau was overdue from hiking on the trail which leads from Thane Road to Point Salisbury near Juneau. Hurtt left for his hike at 1000 hours and had not returned by dark. The Alaska State Troopers coordinated a search and rescue with the assistance of volunteers from SEADOGS searching the trail system. The United States Coast Guard assisted by patrolling the shore line of Gastineau Channel with a small boat and crew. Hurtt was located in a cabin near the trail in the vicinity of Point Salisbury where he sought shelter at night fall. Hurtt and the SEADOGS volunteers safely returned to the trail head at 03:20. The reporting party claimed that the driver appeared to be intoxicated. When AST arrived on scene, the black 1997 Volkswagen Jetta was in the ditch and no subjects were in the area. A check through NCIC and APSIN showed that the vehicle was registered to Tanya Mayda, 39 years of age of Aberdeen, Washington. APSIN also showed that Mayda was currently on conditions of release stating to obey all court orders, do not consume alcohol and do not drive without a valid license. Mayda's Washington Driver's License was found to be currently revoked. AST located Mayda at her residence where she was found to be under the influence of alcohol. She was subsequently arrested and transported to the Craig City Jail where she was remanded for DUI, DWLR, and four counts of Violating Conditions of Release. She was held on $2,500 bail pending arraignment. Conduct involving a weapon Text: At 1552 hours, Troopers responded to an area off the Kasaan road, after receiving phone calls that David Snodgrass age 56 made suicidal comments and left in his vehicle possibly intoxicated. Troopers made contact with Snodgrass investigation revealed Snodgrass was driving under the influence and was in possession of a firearm. Further investigation revealed Snodgrass assaulted a family member in two separate occasions recently. Snodgrass was remanded and transported to Craig Police Department without bail. Investigation revealed Crystal D Langham, age 37 of Wasilla, had assaulted a family member at the residence, causing minor injury, after driving a yellow 2001 Nissan X-Terra while impaired. Langham was arrested at the scene without incident and remanded to MSPT where she was held without bail. AST contacted the driver and identified him as Alexander Cook, 30 yoa of Tazlina. Investigation determined that Cook did not posses a valid dri ver's license. Investigation determined Vamre Alakayak 36, of Togiak was intoxicated and physically assaulted a child when the child found the alcohol and poured the alcohol down the drain. Alakayak was arrested for assault in the fourth degree and remanded at the Togiak hold facility pending arraignment. Albert Newton "Newt" Ball, 71, of Dillingham is believed to have been the pilot and sole occupant of the plane when it crashed. Efforts to locate the pilot will resume today. Searchers include an Alaska Wildlife Trooper, an Alaska State Trooper, State Parks personnel, and local volunteers. On 10/08/12 Troopers and searchers were unable to locate the aircraft due to murky water conditions. Search efforts resumed 10/09/12 with additional resources and a donated sonar unit. Area lodges are helping with the search by contributing people, boats, and equipment to include air transportation provided by Tikchik Adventures. Original text: On 10/07/12 at 1715 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham received a report from a hunting guide at Tikchik Lake reporting an aircraft crash on the lake. The guide reported that he and a hunter observed a small aircraft attempting land on the lake when the aircraft flipped over and began to sink. No one was observed to exit the aircraft while it was sinking. The guide watched the area of the incident and has not observed anyone in the water since the crash. Alaska State Troopers have preliminary information regarding the identity of the aircraft and pilot, but will not release further information until a Trooper can arrive on scene and confirm the information. Alaska State Troopers were unable to fly to the lake to conduct an investigation on 10/7/12 due to darkness and fog in the area. Response efforts on 10/8/12, have also been hampered due to weather conditions in the area. The NTSB and FAA were notified. Nelson's drivers license is can celled for failure to comply with financial responsibility and that he was driving while impaired and under the influence of alcohol. N. After obtaining a search warrant to enter the house, AST Patrol Troopers, Troopers with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, a Wasilla Police Officer and K-9, entered the residence and located Roberts hiding underneath a bed. He was taken into custody at approximately 1015 hoursand remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility. The Department of Public Safety appreciates the help from the public in locating Roberts. Original Text: The Alaska Wildlife Troopers are seeking current and immediate information on the whereabouts of Michael Anthony Roberts, aka Tony Roberts, who absconded from his court-ordered third party custodian and is currently wanted on a $50,000 arrest warrant charging him with contempt of court. The 50-year-old Roberts is 5-feet-9 inches tall, weighs 220 pounds and has balding grey hair and green eyes. During the early morning hours on Oct. 4, an alert was received that Roberts' court ordered ankle monitoring device had been tampered with. Responding officers located the device that was apparently cut-off with a grinder and left in the backyard of Roberts' third-party custodian's residence in Anchorage. Roberts is facing charges in a total of seven criminal cases. Current charges include guiding without a guides license, flying without a pilot's license, driving with a revoked license and more.Roberts was released from custody in February 2012, after being convicted in the Cordova court for charges related to the taking of a moose same day airborne. Roberts was previously the subject of a multi-week man hunt in 1999 when he fled from a State Trooper arrest team after undercover officers, posing as hunting clients, witnessed Roberts committing numerous serious wildlife offenses. Roberts has a long criminal history which includes numerous wildlife and guiding offenses, driving under the influence, assault, forgery and driving without a license. He frequents the Big Lake and Wasilla areas and also has spent time in Anchorage. Roberts is an unlicensed pilot and frequents the Yentna/Susitna drainages as well as the Cordova and Yakutat areas of Alaska. On 10/9/12 at about 1400 hours, Nome WAANT contacted Kiyuklook and a 22 year old female at a local commercial airline in Nome. Investigationg revealed Kiyuklook was attempting to import approximately four gallons of distilled spirits to the local option community of Savoonga. Kiyuklook, age 22 of Savoonga, was arrested for Felony Alcohol Importation and transported to Anvil Mountain Correctional Center where she was lodged with no bail. The 22 year old female traveling with Kiyuklook attempted to import approximately 3.5 liters of distilled spirits to Savoonga. Charges are pending for misdemeanor Alcohol Importation against the 22 year old female. Michaels, 20, a resident of Bethel, Alaska as he waited for his flight to Kipnuk on a local air carrier. Incident to the contact, 16-750ML bottles of distilled spirits were found and seized from his checked bags. A small amount of marijuana was also found in a pocket of Michaels' clothing. It was learned that Michaels was in violation of his conditions of probation for two separate cases through the Bethel Court. Michaels was arrested, transported to YKCC and remanded pending arraignments on 10/11/2012. Kipnuk is a local option community. Investigation complete.
