A Detachment -------------------------------------------- Location: Haines Case number: AK12242259 Type: MVC-I Text: On 10/11/12, at 0825 hours, the Haines Police Department contacted Juneau AST to report a single vehicle motor vehicle collision at 13 mile Haines Highway. HPD responded to the scene and located an unoccupied 1993 Jeep off the side of the Haines Highway. Further investigation revealed that the driver, Kelsey Harrell, age 31 of Haines, was picked up by a passing motorist and transported to her residence in Haines. Harrell was later transported by a private vehicle to the Haines Clinic where she was treated for minor injuries and then released. Case is under investigation. Investigation revealed Blake L Barber, age 22 of Palmer, had assaulted a family member at the residence and then disabled a telephone while that person was attempting to call 911. Blake then physically resisted his arrest, assaulting two State Troopers in the process, all while creating a substantial risk of physical injury to others. Blake was remanded to MSPT where he was held without bail. No medical treatment was required for any party involved. The male was transported to the Emmonak Clinic and then transported by LifeMed to the hospital in Bethel with a possible skull fracture. Suspects have been identified and the investigation continues. Subsequent investigation led to charges being filed against 23 year old Aniak resident Mary Turner, who was located at the residence passed out due to alcohol consumption. Turner is on probation with conditions that she not consume alcohol. Charges of Contempt of Court will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office in Bethel. The vehicle was travelling to Teller. During the contact, troopers discovered a suspicious backpack and it was seized for further investigation. A search warrant was obtained on 10-12-12 and approximately 163 grams of marijuana was found inside the backpack. The street value of the seized marijuana in Teller is approximately $8150. Two suspects have been identified and the investigation continues. Investigation revealed that an Anchorage School District bus driven by Koretta M. Ioane, 53, of Anchorage rear ended a 1990 Toyota truck driven by Calum C. Denuptiis, 17, of Girdwood as he was stopped for construction in the southbound lane at mile 93.5 of the Seward Highway. The force of the collision sent the Toyota truck into the rear of a 1986 GMC utility truck driven by Ryan A. Hunt, 25, of Anchorage. This truck was also stopped for construction. Ioane had 32 Service High School students headed home on board at the time of the crash. No one reported injuries sustained in the collision. The Toyota truck was totaled and the GMC truck suffered minor damage to its bumper. The bus also suffered significant damage to its right front corner. Ioane was cited for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision. The crashed occurred in a Highway Safety Corridor. On 10-11-12, four members of SEACAD traveled to Hoonah to process the lab. Investigation revealed that Gary D. Chamblin, age 49, of Hoonah and David B. Pierce, age 36, of Oregon were involved in the "One Pot" method of manufacturing methamphetamine. Processed methamphetamine, various precursors, listed chemicals and other items related to the manufacture of methamphetamine were removed from the commercial structure by SEACAD. Chamblin and Pierce were arrested and charged with one count each of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II for being in possession of methamphetamine precursors and listed chemicals with intent to manufacture methamphetamine. They were arraigned in Hoonah where bail was set at $50,000 plus a court approved third party custodian. On 10-12-12, SEACAD investigators transported them to Juneau and remanded them at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
