The dri ver was identified as 25 year old Joseph B. Artz of Ketchikan. Investi gation revealed that Artz was under the influence of alcohol and was arrest ed for DUI. Artz was transported to the Ketchikan AST Post where he refu sed to submit to a chemical test of his breath. Artz was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Facility where he was remanded on the charges of Driving Under the Influence and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. The vessel was moored to a USCG buoy. A 3 member team from Sitka Mountain Rescue responded in a vessel and successfully towed the vessel back to Sitka arriving at 1929 hours. Investigation revealed the driver of the truck, 20 year old, Andrew H. Horning of Kodiak was driving with a suspended driver's license. Further investigation revealed Horning was violating two of his conditions of release from a prior case. Horning was placed under arrest for Driving While License Suspended and two counts of Violating Conditions of Release. Horning was transported and remanded to the Kodiak Police Department Jail where he was held with no bail pending arraignment. Courtwright, 59 of Anchorage, requested AST assistance in rescuing his son, Charles D. Courtwright, 30 of Anchorage, because his son had capsized his ATV in the Delta River by Darling Creek, and was soaking wet. Charles M. Courtwright was also stranded on the opposite side of the main channel of the Delta River and could not reach his son to assist him. AST responded and was able to assist Charles D. Courtwright after he had walked over one mile back to the highway. He appeared to be suffering from mild hypothermia, but was otherwise uninjured. Delta EMS responded to the scene and transported Charles D. Courtwright to Family Medical Center for treatment. A private citizen from Delta responded to the scene at the request of AST with a specially modified Dodge pickup for the purpose of rescuing Charles M. Courtwright and his hunting partner. After several hours, and during the hours of darkness, the volunteer and an assistant were able to retrieve Charles M. Courtwright and his hunting partner and provide them with transportation back to the Richa rdson Highway. Investigation revealed three of the four juvenile occupants were under the influence of alcoholic beverages. Further investigation revealed the juvenile driver, who fled on foot and was later contacted, was in violation of his instructional permit. He was issued a misdemeanor citation for violating his instructional permit and a citation for Minor Consuming Alcohol (MCA) and released to his grandmother. The other three individuals were issued citations for MCA and were released to a responsible adult and all parents were contacted. The male was transported and remanded to the Kenai Youth Facility. This investigation is on-going. Original release - On 9/10/12, at 1045 hours, South Peninsula Hospital in Homer reported to the Alaska State Troopers that a 17 year old male was in the hospital reporting he had been sexually assaulted on or about 9/8/12. Investigation revealed the male juvenile was sexually assaulted by Anthony Resetarits, 20, of Anchorage and Joseph Resetarits, 18,of Homer while all three attended a party. On 10/4/12, the Homer Court issued arrest warrants for both Anthony and Joseph Resetarits for Sexual Assault II. At approximately 1045 hours on 10/4/12, Alaska State Troopers in Anchorage and Homer simultaneously executed the arrest warrants. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident. The driver was identified as Samuel Thibodeau, age 33, of Kenai. The investigation revealed Thibodeau was driving Under the Influence (DUI) and had open containers of alcohol inside his vehicle. Murrell II, age 42, of Yakutat summonses for taking a brown bear inside of the Yakutat city dump and for taking a brown bear without a valid 2012 brown bear registration permit. Investigation showed Murrell took a brown inside of the Yakutat city dump on 9/30/12. It is illegal to take brown bears with in 1/2 mile of a public waste facility. Arraignment for both charges has been set for Thursday, October 25th, at 1000 in the Yakutat District Court . Text: On 10/12/12 Archie Kendle 63yo of Gustavus was cited for taking a sub-legal bull moose during the Gustavus moose hunt. Kendle self-reported taking a 34inch, 2 brow tine moose on 10/11/12 in Gustavus. Kendle salvaged the moose, and the meat was donated to charities in Hoonah. Arraignment in the Hoonah court on 10/17/12. Several residents of Napakiak were contacted near a boat on the shore of the Kuskokwim River and incident to the contact a backpack was seized. A single 750 ML bottle of distilled spirits was found on one of the resident's person and also seized. A search warrant was obtained through the Bethel court and served on the backpack. Incident to the search, 7-750ML bottles of distilled spirits were found and seized. Suspects have been identified and investigation continues with charges fort hcoming. AK Bureau of Highway Patrol ------------------------------------------------- Location: Palmer Case number: AK12241191 Type: Motor vehicle collision resulting in a fatality Text: Update: On 10-13-12, Leeann Rodgers succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash which occurred at mile 66 of the Parks Hwy. on 10-07-12, at 1633 hours. Rodgers family has been notified. The State Medical Examiner has been notified of Rodgers death. Troopers continue to investigate the collision. On 10-07-12, at 1633 hours, Alaska State Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol, South Central Team, Talkeetna Patrol Troopers and Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services responded to a report of a motor vehicle head-on collision at mile 66 of the Parks Hwy. Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services arrived on scene and reported they were actively working to free an entrapped driver. Troopers arrived on scene and an investigation revealed Leeann Rodgers, age 55, of Houston was driving her 1986 Toyota Camry north bound on the Parks Hwy. when she crossed the center line and crashed into a 2005 Volkswagen sedan operated by Ronald Palmer, age 75, of Wasilla who was traveling south bound. The collision occurred on a stretch of roadway where guardrails were present on both sides of the road and Palmer attempted to avoid the collision by striking the guardrail but was unable to fully move out of Rodgers way. Palmer sustained minor injuries during the crash and was transported by EMS to Mat-Su Regional Hospital where he was treated and released. Palmer reported wearing his safety belt and the airbags in his Volkswagen deployed during the crash. Rodgers was transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital by EMS with serious injuries and has since been transferred to Anchorage Regional Hospital where she is reported to be in critical condition at this time. Family members have been notified and are on scene at the Hospital with Rodgers. Rodgers was wearing a safety belt at the time of the collision. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this case. Troopers believe either a medical emergency or distracted driving may be the cause of the collision. Troopers are continuing to investigate the collision.
