A Detachment -------------------------------------------- Location: Sitka Case number: AK12244208 Type: Missing Person Text: On 10/20/12, at 1826 hours, Sitka Mountain Rescue contacted Ketchikan AST Dispatch in reference to a missing person in Sitka. Lael Grant, age 33 of Sitka, was last seen on 10/14/12, at approximately 1500 hours at her families residence in Sitka. On 10/20/12, Sitka PD located Grant's vehicle unoccupied parked at the end of Nelson Logging Road adjacent to the outdoor shooting range. SMR is conducting a search of the area adjacent to where Grant's vehicle was located with ground searchers and search dogs. If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of Grant please contact the Sitka PD or the Alaska State Troopers in Juneau. Investigation revealed the driver, Michael J. Hale, age 41 of Houston, and passenger Nicholas A. Barnes, age 23 of Houston, both possessed loaded firearms while also possessing methamphetamine and other controlled substances. Both Hale and Barnes failed to notify Troopers immediately upon contact they possessed the firearms. Both Hale and Barnes were arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where further investigation revealed Hale possessed more methamphetamine packaged for sale, a prescription controlled substance, and ammunition. Hale was charged with MIW 2nd Degree, MICS 3rd Degree, MICS 4th Degree, Promoting Contraband in the 1st Degree (X2), Promoting Contraband in the 2nd Degree, MICS 5th Degree, and MIW 5th Degree. Barnes was charged with MIW 2nd Degree, MICS 4th Degree, MIW 5th Degree, and MICS 6th Degree. Both Hale and Barnes were remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility with bail set at $15,000 + CATP. Investigation revealed Figgeroa had failed to register as a sex offender and in addition, Figgeroa had a felony warrant for his arrest for Probation Violation on the original charges of SAM 1 and SAM 2. Figgeroa was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on $5050 C/C bail plus CATP. AST conducted a traffic stop on the Dodge truck and investigation revealed the passenger Orville Newhall, age 52 of Wasilla, had an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear on the original charge of DWLS. Further investigation revealed Newhall was in possession of a controlled substance. Newhall was arrested, transported, and remanded to MSPT where he was held on $1,500 bail. E Detachment Location: Soldotna, AK Case Number: AK12243960 Type: DUI; DWLR; Reckless Driving Text: On 10/19/12, at approximately 2022 hrs, Soldotna AST stopped a vehicle near mile 98 of the Sterling Hwy in Soldotna for a traffic violation. The driver, later identified as Rollin A. Kiley, age 24 of Kenai, stopped the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods while the vehicle rolled back and struck the AST vehicle. The Trooper was still in the vehicle at the time and was not injured, and neither vehicle was damaged. At approximately 2120 hrs, while Troopers were tracking Kiley through the woods he was seen getting into a cab and leaving the area. At approximately 2122 hrs, the cab was stopped and Kiley arrested without further incident for DUI, Reckless Driving, and DWLR. Kiley was remanded to Wildwood Correctional Facility without bail. AK Bureau of Investigation Location: Hooper Bay Case Number: AK12243058 Type: Death Investigation Text: On 10/17/2012 Bethel WAANT/AST traveled to Hooper Bay in regards to a reported death. Investigation determined that Panik Bell, 20, of Hooper Bay had succumbed to the elements. Bell was found in an open area near the docks. Scene investigation suggested that Bell, while walking, had broken through ice and had become wet. Temperatures were in the high 20's, with wind and wind chills in the teens. The body of Bell was transported to Anchorage at the request of the SME for an autopsy. NOK were notified. Investigation complete. The driver was identified as Alicia M. Keller, age 21 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Keller was driving with a suspended driver's license. Keller was issued a misdemeanor citation for DWLS. Keller was also issued a citation for the moving violation. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver from Anchorage.
