A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Ketchikan Case number: 09-98075 Type: MVC-D Text: On 10/31/09 at 1751 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a single motor vehicle collision near mile 5.2 of the South Tongass Highway. The driver, Alexander J. Jones, age 16 of Ketchikan was driving his 2004 Chevrolet northbound on the highway when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned. AST and the South Tongass Fire Department responded to the scene. The South Tongass Fire Department transported Jones to the Ketchikan General Hospital where he was later released. While on scene, State Troopers contacted Glenn E. Hamilton III, age 20 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Hamilton had an outstanding arrest warrant on the original charge of Vehicle Theft I and Theft III. Hamilton had a second outstanding arrest warrant on the original charge of Theft III. Hamilton was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded into custody and is being held on a $5250 bail. Troopers located the vehicle near mile 78 of the Parks Highway and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Thomas Kauffman, age 21 of Palmer. Investigation revealed that Kauffman had just stolen the sign from along the Parks Highway. The sign was valued at approximately $150. Kauffman was arrested and was remanded into MSPT. McKechnie Loop, near Palmer, for a report of a disturbance. While on scene, State Troopers contacted Tina M. Papp, age 36 of Palmer. Investigation revealed that Ann F. Nelson, age 53 of Palmer, was traveling eastbound on Plumley Road in her 2009 Hyundai Tuscon when she collided with a moose that ran into the roadway. No injuries were reported. Nelson was wearing her seat belt at the time of the collision. The vehicle is estimated to be a total loss. Investigation determined that a seventeen year old male attempted to commit suicide using a .22 caliber rifle. After the attempt, the male walked to the school unarmed and was observed with a wound on his arm. The male was subsequently treated for non life threatening injuries at the Noorvik medical clinic and the Maniilaq Medical Center in Kotzebue. No students and faculty members were harmed during the incident. Alcohol was not a factor during the incident and no foul play is suspected. Investigation complete. Investigation determined Elizabeth A. Baublits, age 59, of Palmer was operating a 1996 Ford Taurus southbound on the Parks Hwy. and was reported to be driving very erratically. Witnesses stated the vehicle collided with multiple guardrails before coming to rest against a guardrail in the northbound lanes of the Glenn Hwy. just south of the Parks Hwy. / Glenn Hwy. interchange. Baublits sustained some injuries in the collision and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center where she was admitted. Baublits was the only occupant in the vehicle and alcohol appears to have been a factor in this collision. Investigation continues. Fauna Roxxan Terrell, age 24, of North Pole, was identified as the driver. Her passenger was Daniel McKenzie Roberts, age 25, of North Pole. Investigation revealed Terrell was driving the car while impaired by alcohol when Roberts reached and jerked the steering wheel, causing Terrell to lose control of the car and crash. The car crashed into and through a boundary fence to Fort Wainwright. Terrell was arrested for DUI. Roberts was found to be impaired by alcohol as well and was arrested for DUI and Reckless Endangerment (DV). A portion of the fence was destroyed. The car received substantial front end damage and was towed. Both were remanded at Fairbanks Correctional Center. Bail for Terrell was set at $1500. Roberts was held with no bail pending arraignment.
