A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Angoon Case number: AK12251717 Type: Search and Rescue/overdue hunter Text: 11-24-2012, 08:30; AST received a report of an overdue hunter at Kootznahoo Inlet adjacent to Angoon. The hunter had failed to arrive at his designated pick up point at the designated time the previous day. A search was conducted by his family which was unsuccessful. AST in cooperation with Angoon SAR volunteers, VPSO, SEADOGS, and the USCG initiated a search for the missing hunter which was suspend by 1700 due to darkness. The search will resume tomorrow. Author: UTDB0 Received Saturday, November 24, 2012 6:24 PM and posted Saturday, November 24, 2012 6:33 PM ------------------------------------------------- Location: Tenakee Case number: AK12224597 Type: Boating Accident/ two people deceased Text: On 11/23/2012 at 2028 Alaska State Troopers were notified of a boating accident near Tenakee Springs by the United States Coast Guard. The investigation revealed three men were operating a 18-foot Lund skiff when it took a wave over the stern causing it to sink placing the passengers into the water. Jim Brown Jr., 20 yoa of Juneau, made it safely to shore were he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and alerted the community to the accident. Volunteers began searching and notified the USCG who responded with a helicopter to conduct a search. Searchers located Kelly Newman 23 yoa of Juneau in the water unresponsive. Newman was brought to shore where efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful. Casey Newman 26 yoa of Juneau was missing and last seen in the water. The USCG and volunteers searched for several hours without results. 11/24/12 The Alaska State Troopers and SEADOGS assisted the USCG efforts to locate Casey Newman who was found unresponsive under water at approximately 1408. Investigation determined Deal was in possession of controlled substances. Deal is currently out on bail on the original charge of MICS 4. Deal was arrested and charged with MICS 3, MICS 4 and VCOR. Deal was transported and remanded into custody at MSPT with bail set at $20,000 plus a CATP. Investigation reveled Theresa Mayo, age 58 of Palmer had left her residence in clothes that were not sufficient for the weather. Her family did not know where she went, or where she would go. AST, AWT, Palmer PD and Search and Rescue crews searched the area eventually finding Mayo approximately a mile away from her residence. Mayo was able to communicate with Troopers, but was very cold from being exposed to the weather. Mayo was eventually transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Author: SMO0 Received Saturday, November 24, 2012 8:24 PM and posted Saturday, November 24, 2012 8:35 PM C Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Mountain Village Case Number: AK12251711 Type: Search and Rescue Text: On November 24, 2012, at approximately 0030 hours, Troopers were notified that Joseph Seton, age 31, and Samuel Rivers, age 49, both from Mountain Village, were overdue from a snowmachine trip from Mountain Village to Scammon Bay. Investigation revealed that Seton and Rivers departed Mountain Village on November 23, 2012 at 1435 hours, on a black and yellow colored Ski-Doo Snowmachine. Troopers coordinated air and ground assets to locate the snowmachiners. At 1242 hours, a DPS Trooper aircraft located Seton and Rivers, on foot, approximately 8 miles west of Mountain Village. Seton and Rivers reported they spent the night without shelter after becoming disoriented and running out of gas while trying to find their route. Mountain Village Search and Rescue personnel contacted and provided transportation for Seton and Rivers back to Mountain Village. No injuries occurred. Troopers urge winter travelers to leave a travel itinerary with a reliable person and to carry communication equipment when enroute. Troopers would like to thank the Scammon Bay and Mountain Village VPSO's and Search and Rescue teams that made this rescue possible. Jason John, age 23 of TOK and Emanuel Frank, age 23 of Fairbanks were arrested for Disorderly Conduct. Additionally, John had a $1000 AST warrant from Tok. Frank was also charged with Interfering with the arrest of John. John and Frank were transported and remanded at the Fairbanks Correctional Center. Investigation showed that a 2006 Ford Ranger, driven, by Patrick F. McKeen, 66 of Delta Jct, was traveling south at about 55 MPH. While climbing Tenderfoot, the rear tires lost traction, and the truck spun out of control off the west side of the highway. The pickup rolled one complete rotation and came to rest on the driver's side. The occupants had to be assisted out of the pickup by passersby. There were no injuries that required EMS or medical assistance. No enforcement action was needed or taken. Author: JMW1 Received Saturday, November 24, 2012 5:24 PM and posted Saturday, November 24, 2012 5:55 PM E Detachment ------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Girdwood Case Number: AK122-51767 Subject: MVC-F (vehicle vs. pedestrian) Text: At 1326 hrs, Troopers received a 911 call reporting a vehicle wreck with damage only at mile 88 of the Seward Highway. Investigation revealed that a red 1998 Ford Explorer lost control and struck a guardrail. A trooper responded to the scene and remained on scene while a tow truck was dispatched for the vehicle. At 1400 hrs, Troopers received a call of a seperate single motor vehicle collision at approximately mile 98 of the Seward Highway. The trooper broke from the wreck at mile 88 and responded to the incident at mile 98. At 1413 hours, shortly after the trooper arrived on scene of the second wreck, a 911 call was made reporting that a pedestrian and the red Ford Explorer had been struck by a vehicle at the scene of the original wreck at mile 88 of the Seward Highway. The Trooper returned back to mile 88 of Seward Highway along with Girdwood medics. Initial investigation revealed that a gold 2007 Dodge Caravan driven by John Sadusky, 86 of Seward, lost control and struck a State of Alaska DOT worker and his vehicle. The DOT worker had stopped to assist the damaged Ford Explorer. The Caravan also struck the Ford Explorer. The caller on scene reported that the pedestrian was deceased and resuscitation efforts would be futile. The man has been identified as Robert Hammel, 60 of Girdwood. Next of Kin has been notified as well as the State Medical Examiner's Office. The driver of the Dodge Caravan, John Sadusky and his passenger, Nancy Sadusky, 83 of Seward, were transported by Girdwood Fire Department to Providence Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. No one in the Ford Explorer suffered any injuries. Units from the Bureau of Highway Patrol out of Palmer responded to conduct Total Station. Investigation is ongoing. AK Bureau of Investigation Location: Bethel Case Number: AK12251758 Type: Alcohol Importation/Violate Conditions of Release-Felony Text: On 11/24/2012 at approximately 1245 hours, Bethel WAANT contacted Heather Poe, 23, a resident of Bethel as she waited for her flight to Chevak on a local air carrier. Incident to the contact, 2-750ML bottles of distilled spirits were found and seized from Poe's person. 8 additional 750ML bottles of distilled spirits were found in her checked bag. Poe was arrested and transported to YKCC and lodged in lieu of bail pending arraignments on 11/25/2012. Poe was found to be on conditions of release for a Felony offense out of the Bethel court and was in violation of those conditions. Chevak is a local option community. Investigation complete. AK Bureau of Highway Patrol --------------------------------------------------------- Location: Wasilla Case number: AK12251687 Type: DUI / MICS 6TH Text: On 11/24/2012, at 0101 hours, Troopers with the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol South Central Team stopped a vehicle on Knik Goose Bay Road near Park Ave for multiple traffic violations. An investigation showed that the driver, Beck Hesselbach, age 26 of Wasilla, was driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Hesselbach was arrested and further investigation showed that she was also in possession of marijuana. Hesselbach was remanded into Mat-Su Pretrial where bail was set at $500. Haley McCaig was identified as the driver of a 1986 Toyota Tercel. During the traffic stop McCaig was suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol. During the investigation McCaig showed impairment and was subsequently arrested for a DUI. McCaig was transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center and remanded. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver. The 2009, Dodge Ram pick up was stopped for multiple moving violations. The driver, Joshua L. O'Quinn (26 YOA of Ft. Wainwright) was contacted and suspected to be impaired by alcohol. An investigation was conducted and O'Quinn was arrested for DUI. O'Quinn was transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center and remanded. The vehicle was released to a licensed sober driver.
