Hailstone was ordered by the judge to serve 15 months in jail. Following his release, Hailstone will be on felony probation for three years. In July 2011, Hailstone lied to obtain a temporary stalking protective order from a magistrate in the Kotzebue court against an Alaska State Trooper on behalf of his minor daughter. Hailstone made accusations that the trooper had assaulted his daughter and placed her in fear during an investigative contact in Noorvik. An investigation into the accusations revealed that Hailstone had misrepresented and fabricated information about the incident and had sworn under oath that his testimony was truthful and accurate during several court hearings. The investigation showed the trooper had not acted in the manner testified to by Hailstone and had responded appropriately in his official capacity as an Alaska State Trooper. Further, a jury of Hailstone's peers found that he had falsely testified and committed perjury in his sworn statements to the court against the Trooper. "Mr. Hailstone's actions significantly undermined the justice system," said Captain Barry Wilson, C Detachment Commander.
