A Detachment Location: Ketchikan Case number: AK12255942 Type: DWLS, MICS 6th Degree Text: On 12/12/12 at 2134 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on gold Ford Taurus near the intersection of Jefferson Street and Tongass Highway. The vehicle was pulled over for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed that Luke Bumb, age 27 of Ketchikan was operating a motor vehicle while his license was Suspended. Further investigation revealed the L. Bumb was in possession of Marijuana inside the vehicle. L. Bumb was issued a summons at the scene for DWLS and MICS 6th Degree. Bumb also received a traffic citation for Failure to Show Proof of Insurance. Author: JPB0 Received Thursday, December 13, 2012 8:13 AM and posted Thursday, December 13, 2012 8:26 AM Location: Ketchikan Case number: AK12255924 Type: Search and Rescue Text: On 12/12/12 at 2000 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan received a report from the United States Coast Guard of a vessel taking on water near Snow Passage at Macanamara Point. The vessel, Carrie Arlene, with two Wrangell residents on board, lost steering and electrical functions when it began taking on water. USCG and Wrangell Search and Rescue attempted to respond to the scene but had to turn back due to weather conditions. A nearby good samaritan vessel, named Arik, located the Carrie Arlene and tied up next to her. Steering and electric functions were restored and the water is being evacuated from the vessel. The Carrie Arlene has reported they no longer need USCG assistance. No injuries were reported and no medical attention was required. AST would like to thank the USCG, Wrangell Search and Rescue, and good samaritan vessel Arik for their assistance during the search and rescue. Troopers contacted Vincent Kunayak, age 38 of Houston, who was highly intoxicated. Kunayak became aggressive and attempted to fight with Troopers. Kunayak was arrested for disorderly conduct for challenging Troopers to fight and resisting arrest. Kunayak was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial facility where he was held on $2,000 bail. Investigation found that Demetrios Peros, 50 of Fairbanks, was southbound in his Honda Pickup Truck when he failed to realize the white out conditions were being created by a tractor trailer traveling in the same direction in front of him. The tractor trailer was driven by Arthur Seniva, 47 of North Pole, and began to signal a left hand turn into pump station 9. Peros failed to perceive the action and rear ended the trailer. Both were wearing seatbelts. Peros was cited for failing to avoid a collision. Investigation revealed Amelia Inman, 17, of Homer was driving a 2002 Dodge Durango when she lost control on the icy road. The Durango slid across the road and into a driveway striking a parked Toyota Corolla pushing the Corolla into a building. Inman was not wearing her seat belt, but was uninjured. Investigation revealed she was operating the Durango without liability insurance and with an expired registration. Damage to the Durango was estimated at $3,500. Damage to the Corolla was estimated at $2,000 and damage to the building was estimated at $500. Inman was issued citations for Failure To Carry Proof Of Liability Insurance, Expired Registration, and Fail To Wear Seat Belt. Investigation revealed William Trimmingham, age 88 of Hope, had shoveled some snow at his residence. Trimmingham went inside and sat down with a friend, Robert Sherrick, age 64 of Hope. Trimmingham slumped over in the chair while Sherrick was talking with him. CPR was started. Hope medics arrived on scene and called the death at 1110 hours. The next-of-kin, Laura Trimmingham, age 57 of Hope, was on scene when AST arrived on scene. Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory responded for the body. Investigation showed that a minor individual had threatened to self-harm and harm others during a counseling session. The individual was transported from Klukwan to Haines by Wildlife Troopers and turned over to Metal Health Professionals pending transport out of town to a treatment facility. Further investigation revealed all three deer had been shot from a boat and no harvest tickets were validated. Both subjects were issued citations for shooting big game from a boat in units 1-5 and failing to validate harvest tickets immediately before leaving the kill site. Both rifles used to take the deer were seized as well as all three deer. The deer meat was donated to the Pioneers Home in Juneau. A mandatory court date was scheduled for December 27th, 2012 at 1:15pm in the Juneau District Court. Kookesh Jr. of Angoon in Mitchell Bay transporting clients after Sportfish Guiding in Salt Lake. Investigation revealed Kookesh was not licensed as a guide or sportfish guide operator and did not have sportfish guide logbooks. Kookesh was charged with the three above offenses in Angoon District Court. On 12/13/12 Kookesh pled guilty to all three counts in Angoon District Court. Kookesh was fined $5500 with $2700 suspended, and placed on probation for two years.
