Fire and Life Safety Regulations

Title 13 of the Alaska Administrative Code, Chapters 50 through 55, was adopted and amended to the 2006 International Building, Fire, and Mechanical Codes. This new code took affect on September 13, 2007. Projects submitted after that date will be reviewed under the new code.

Policy Letters

The building official is hereby authorized and directed to enforce the provisions of this code. The building official shall have the authority to render interpretations of this code and to adopt policies and procedures in order to clarify the application of its provisions. Such interpretations, policies and procedures shall be in compliance with the intent and purpose of this code. Such policies and procedures shall not have the effect of waiving requirements specifically provided for in this code.

Proposed Changes to the Regulation Amendments of the Department of Public Safety

On October 17, 2011 the Department of Public Safety opened the public comment period for the proposed regulation changes to Title 13 of the Alaska Administrative Code. The proposed changes effect the following areas; building code standards, fire code standards, mechanical code standards, fuel gas code standards, plan review fees, oil and gas hydrocarbon processing facilities, fire protection system permitting, fire incident reporting, fire department registration and fire department training program accreditation.

Comments will be taken until 4:30 pm on Thursday, December 15th, 2011.
