A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Klawock Case number: AK13016038 Type: MVC-D Text: On 03/08/2013 at approximately 0800 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to the area of 17.5 mile Klawock-Hollis Highway for a report of a single vehicle roll over. Investigation showed that the driver Kelli Taylor, 23, of Klawock, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac southbound on the Klawock-Hollis Highway when she hit a patch of ice and slid off the roadway rolling over into the ditch. Taylor was wearing her seat belt and reported no injuries and declined medical transport. Alcohol was not a factor. Damage is estimated at $5,000. Investigation revealed between the hours of 2300 on 3/7/13 and 0430 on 3/8/13 someone broke a window and stole approximately $200 worth of cigarettes from the front counter. Upon arrival, Alaska State Troopers contacted Mark C. Hughes, age 36, of Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Hughes had operated a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was operating the vehicle with a revoked license. Further investigation showed Hughes also had broken household property owned by a family member at the residence. Hughes was arrested for Criminal Mischief IV (DV),DUI, and DWLR. He was remanded into the custody of Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was held without bail. Investigation revealed that Alexis Mike, age 47, of Willow threatened a family member with a knife and damaged items in the residence. Alexis then kept the victim from calling AST. Alexis was subsequently arrested for Assault III-DV and Criminal Mischief III-DV, and Interfering the with the report of a Domestic Violence Crime. Alexis was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded without bail. Investigation revealed Kjirsten Tornfelt, age 21 of Wasilla, was operating a 1998 Ford van and attempted to make a U-turn, but failed to yield to a 1997 Ford escort operated by Darlene Whatley, age 68, of Palmer. Whatley and a passenger were transported to the Mat-Su Regional Medical center with non-life threatening injuries. Tornfelt was cited for failure to yield. Van Gorder Drive in Wasilla. During the investigation AST contacted Adam Thorpe, age 30 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Thorpe recklessly caused physical injury to a family member during the incident. Thorpe was arrested for the original charge of Assault in the Fourth Degree (DV) and transported to the MSPT facility in Palmer where he was remanded into custody and held without bail. The investigation revealed that the female was assaulted by her boyfriend, Oran Walton Jr., 30 YOA of Selawik, during an altercation at their residence. The victim sustained the injury when Walton Jr. struck her forehead with a toaster's sharp edge. Due to the severity of the laceration, the victim was medevac'd to the Maniilaq Health Center in Kotzebue for treatment. Walton Jr. was arrested for Assault in the First Degree, transported to Kotzebue and remanded to the Kotzebue Regional Jail without bail. The investigation is continuing. Alcohol was a factor in the case. Author: MJD1 Received Friday, March 08, 2013 8:08 AM and posted Friday, March 08, 2013 8:23 AM --------------------------------------------------------- Location: Dillingham Case Number: AK13016102 Subject: Search and Rescue, Aircraft Accident Text: On 3/8/2013 at approximately 0830 hours, Dillingham Alaska State Troopers were advised by the RCC that an Ace Air Cargo flight had dropped off the radar prior to its scheduled landing at the Dillingham Airport. The aircraft is reported to be a Beech 1900 with two people on board. Initial information is that the aircraft was flying instrument flight rules (IFR) and was cleared to land at the Dillingham airport and the aircraft never landed. At approximately 0915 hours the Emergency Locator Beacon (ELT) began transmitting a signal. The location is approximately 20 miles northeast of Dillingham in the Muklung Hills. A Dillingham AWT Trooper attempted to reach the scene via snowmachine, however, due to poor weather and snow conditions, he was forced to return to Dillingham. Ground response has been suspended. AST is working with RCC. At approximately 1300 hours, a Coast Guard Helicopter arrived in the vicinity and is searching for the missing aircraft. A C-130, an additional helicopter and other resources will arrive in Dillingham at approximately 1400 hours to join the search effort. Updates to follow. When they did not arrive in Russian Mission and Marshall, AST enlisted the help of local community search and rescue volunteers from Akiachak and Marshall to conduct a search of the area.The search is currently ongoing with additional search volunteers from Bethel, Nunapitchuk, and Russian Mission as well as an AST aircraft with volunteer observers. Pruett, age 39, of Wasilla after a traffic stop for speeding, on Palmer Fishhook Rd. near N Bonnie Dr. Investigation revealed that Pruett was impaired while driving. In addition, Pruett had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to Appear on the original charge of MIW IV, with $500 bail and a CATP. Pruett was arrested and transported to Palmer Post where he refused to provide a sample of his breath for testing. Pruett was charged with DUI-Alcohol and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, and is currently in custody on the warrant.
