Troopers contacted a vehicle matching the description in the area and identified the driver as 63-year-old Deborah A. Hayden of Ketchikan. Investigation revealed Hayden was under the influence of alcohol. Haden was arrested for DUI and was transported to the Ketchikan AST Post where she refused to provide a sample of her breath. Hayden was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where she was remanded on the charges of DUI and Refusal. Bail was set at $1,500. A 59 yoa resid ent of Whitehorse, Yukon, was driving north on the Haines Highway in a 2008 Pontiac sedan when he lost control due to the icy road conditions and the vehicle exited the roadway and struck the snow embankment and rolled over o nto its top. Investigation determined Peter P. Basargin, age 24 of Wasilla operated a motor vehicle wh ile impaired and under the influence of alcohol and while having a 4 month old child in the vehicle. After being placed under arrest, Basargin refused to submit to a chemical test as required under the Alaska Implied Consent Law. Basargin was remanded into custody at Matsu Pre-Trial and held on $2'5 00 bail plus a court approved third party. Investigation revealed Tomiko Akihiro, age 40, of Anchorage had provided false information and was later found to have a warrant for her arrest. A search of Akihiro's purse revealed alprazolam pills hidden in a breath mint container that she did not have a prescription. Akihiro was arrested for the warrant, DWLS, Making a False Report and MICS 5th. Akihiro was transported and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, where she was held on $750 bail. Investigation revealed the passenger, Christopher Kearn s, age 32 of Wasilla, had an outstanding warrant for failure to satisfy jud gment and complete ASAP requirements. Further investigation revealed the dr iver, Reinaldo Delsie, age 51 of Wasilla, was driving while his license was revoked. Kearns and Delsie were arrested and transported to Mat Su Pretria l Facility where they were remanded. Kearns was held on $500.00 bail and De lsie was released on his own recognizance. Pitka's body was located about 6.5 miles south of his snowmachine that was found abandoned on the Woodcutters Trail about 30 miles northwest of Bethel on 3/7/2013. On 3/10/2013, troopers received a report that Raymond Marth had walked into Kalskag. He reported he and Pitka had parted ways days prior and he didn't know Pitka's whereabouts. Marth's abandoned snowmachine was found 36 miles from Pitka's snowmachine on 3/11/2013. Volunteers from area villages searched the area every day since 3/7/2013. AST conducted aerial searches until the state's efforts to find Pitka was suspended the night of 3/12/2013. Foul play is not suspected. Alcohol is believed to be a factor. Original Text: On 3/6/13 at approximately 1612 hours, Bethel AST received a report of two overdue snowmachiners, Harvey Pitka, 32, of Russian Mission and Raymond Marth, 53, of Marshall that had departed Akiachak at 0400 hours en-route to the Yukon River. When they did not arrive in Russian Mission and Marshall, AST enlisted the help of local community search and rescue volunteers from Akiachak and Marshall to conduct a search of the area. The search is currently ongoing with additional search volunteers from Bethel, Nunapitchuk, and Russian Mission as well as an AST aircraft with volunteer observers. Preliminary investigation revealed the pills contained controlled substances. Investigation revealed Arthur Lillis, age 59 of Anchorage, was traveling south in a 1999 gold Ford Explorer and was towing a trailer. The trailer began swaying on ice covered roads causing Lillis to lose control of his vehicle. Lillis crossed the center line of the highway and struck a 2009 silver Pontiac G6 driven by Shawn Miller, age 19 of Palmer. Miller and his passenger Mary Geist, age 18 of Palmer, received minor injuries. Lillis was uninjured in the crash. All parties reported wearing their safety belts. Alcohol was not a factor. Investigation revealed Jade Mann, age 22 of Kenai, was traveling north on the Seward Highway in a 2007 GMC pickup. Mann approached an earlier collision and traffic had slowed considerably. Mann took evasive action to avoid the vehicle in front of her, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree. Visibility was a factor in the collision.
