Received Wednesday, July 21, 2010 4:21 PM and posted Wednesday, July 21, 2010 4:11 PM Location: Juneau Case Number: 09-10283 Type: Sexual Abuse of Minor - Jury Verdict Text: On 7-21-10, A Juneau jury found Thomas Jack Jr., age 34 of Hoonah, guilty of 3 counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the First degree and 3 counts of Sexual Abuse of Minor in the Second Degree. Jack was arrested in February of 2009 by Alaska State Troopers in Juneau after their investigation found that he had been sexually abusing an 11 year old foster child in his care. In February of 2010 a Juneau jury was unable to reach unanimous decision, resulting in a "hung" verdict and eventually a second trial. Testimony in this trial lasted 4 days and the jury deliberated for another day and half before returning the 6 guilty verdicts. The jury found Jack not guilty of one count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the First degree. Jack was immediately remanded to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center where he will await sentencing which is scheduled for September 30th. The 3 unclassified felonies and 3 class B felonies all carry a prison term of up to 99 years. The skiff did not have a motor and the structure built for shelter was damaged. The skiff was registered to Robert PIERCE of Nenana. The driver, 22 year old Kyle Lackey of Seward, was subsequently arrested for DUI, DWLR and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance. The vehicle was released to the passenger who was waiting for family to pick her and the vehicle up. At 2329 hours, AST located the vehicle parked at a different location and found the passenger Sandra Hansen, of Seward, walking away from the vehicle. Investigation revealed Hansen moved the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Hansen was subsequently arrested for DUI. Both were transported to the Seward Jail and remanded without incident. Warren initially identified himself with a false name before investigation revealed he was in fact Warren. Further investigation revealed that Warren was a non-resident and had caught 30 personal use salmon with a dipnet in Chitna without a permit. Warren was issued a summons to the Glennallen Court for taking personal use fish without a permit and providing false information to a peace officer. The 30 salmon were donated to charity. AK Bureau of Investigation Location: Palmer Case Number: 10-64794 Type: Death Investigation - Human remains Text: at 0834 on 7-16-2010, Alaska State Troopers received a request for a welfare check on 60-year-old Christopher Chapman after family had not heard from Chapman for two months. Patrol troopers responded to Chapman's residence north of Palmer and found badly decomposed human remains in back of the residence next to a wood pile. The remains were turned over to the SME's office for identification and to determine the cause of death. A dental check positively identified the remains on 7-21 as belonging to Chapman, however, due to the high level of decomposition, the cause of death will be very difficult to determine.
