A Detachment Location: Ketchikan Incident number: AK12245433 Type: REDDI & DWLS Text: On 10/16/12 Ketchikan AST received a REDDI (report every dangerous driver) of a 2003 KIA near mile 10 of the North Tongass Highway. Troopers contacted the driver of the vehicle in the REDDI report and investigation revealed that the driver; Jasper Rodgers, 21 years of age of Ketchikan was driving a motor vehicle on a public roadway while her license was suspended. Rodgers was advised of safe driving practices and issued a summons for driving while her license was suspended with a mandatory court date of 11/13/12. Text: On 10/27/12 at 0259 hours AST received a 911 call reporting an assault at a residence on the 5600 block of Teddy Lane. Investigation revealed that Marcus Garza, 31, of Ketchikan had assaulted his girlfriend at the home. Further investigation revealed that Garza attempted to destroyand conceal physical evidence at the scene from the investigating trooper. Garza was found to be in possession of marijuana and hashish. Garza was placed under arrest and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center. Powell, age 23 of Wasilla, hiding in the crawlspace of a residence during a disturbance investigation. Investigation revealed Powell had a felony warrant for his arrest for Probation Violation and an additional misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear at trial call on the original charge of Theft 3. Powell was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on $5750 C/C bail plus CATP. While at the residence Troopers contacted William J. Howard, age 27 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Howard recklessly caused physical injury to a roommate. Howard was arrested for Assault IV DV and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility. Howard was remanded and held without bail. Investigation revealed Dabney had an outstanding AST arrest warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Assault in the 3rd Degree, and Call had two outstanding AST arrest warrants for DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Subsequently, Dabney and Call were arrested on the outstanding warrants and remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial. Dabney was held without bail and Call was held with bail set at $1,200. The driver John Fleming, age 42 of Wasilla, had an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear for the original charges of Theft and was operating on a suspended license. Investigation revealed Fleming was in possession of Heroin and Methamphetamine. Fleming was arrested for the warrant, Driving while License Suspended and two counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the fourth degree. Fleming was remanded to Matsu Pretrial Facility where he was held on $7,500 bail. Smith Road in Palmer. Investigation revealed Richard Philips, age 48 of Palmer, passed away of natural causes. The State Medical Examiner responded to the scene and released the body to Heritage Funeral Home. Next of Kin has been notified. No foul play is suspected. Author: RRA0 Received Saturday, October 27, 2012 5:27 PM and posted Saturday, October 27, 2012 5:41 PM C Detachment Location: Togiak Case Number: AK12245224 Type: Motor vehicle collision- Injury Text: On 10-25-12 at approximately 0550 hours, AST received a report from a Togiak Security officer that he saw a vehicle drive off the road while he was on patrol within the City of Togiak. The vehicle was not damaged. As the Security officer approached the vehicle, he saw the driver, Simeon R. Wassillie 20, of Togiak run away on foot from the vehicle. The Togiak VPSO was contacted and an intoxicated passenger left in the vehicle was given a ride home. At approximately 0640 hours, the VPSO was on patrol in the area looking for Wassillie, who was believed to be on foot. The VPSO was turning his patrol vehicle around when his patrol vehicle was struck in the front end by an ATV driven at a high rate of speed. The driver of the ATV, Simeon R. Wassillie, was ejected from the vehicle. Wassillie was transported to the Clinic and later medivaced to Dillingham and then to Anchorage for serious facial injuries. The VPSO was not injured and his vehicle sustained minimal damage. The ATV sustained heavy front end damage. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident. Investigation is continuing. Text: On 10/25/12, The Togiak Village Public Safety Officer responded to the Togiak Airport after receiving a call that a passenger arriving on a flight from Dillingham to Togiak was possibly carrying alcohol to the dry community. The VPSO contacted a 32-year-old Togiak resident after the plane landed and he saw the outline of bottle stuck in the left sleeve of Forsling's jacket. When Jonathan was confronted about the bottle in his jacket, he advised the bottle was a 750 ML bottle of Rich & Rare. Jonathan gave the bottle of alcohol to the VPSO. The above charges were forwarded to the District Attorney's Office. AK Bureau of Highway Patrol ------------------------------------------------- Location: Palmer Case number: AK12245602 Type: DUI, Refusal, Reckless Driving Text: On 10-27-12, at 0405 hours, Alaska State Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 GMC 1500 after observing it fail to stop at two stop signs, speeding, traveling over the center line multiple times and traveling in the wrong lane of travel. The driver was identified as Dwight L. Rice, age 32, of Wasilla. An investigation revealed Rice was operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest for DUI and Reckless Driving. Rice later refused to provide a sample of breath under the implied consent law and was subsequently charged with refusing a chemical test. Rice was then transported and remanded into the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was held on $5500 bail plus a court approved third party.
