A Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Heceta Island Case number: AK12256214 Type: Search and Rescue, Agency Assist. Text: On 12/12/12 at 2300 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Klawock received a report from the United States Coast Guard that the fishing vessel "Equity" had struck a rock near Emerald Island on the Southwest side of Heceta Island. The vessel was taking on water, and the three person crew was preparing to abandon the vessel. USCG requested assistance from Klawock Search and Rescue, who dispatched a rescue boat to the scene. The Craig Harbor Department also launched a rescue boat to assist with the effort. A nearby good Samaritan vessel, named "High Pocket", located the crew of the "Equity" in their immersion suits and life raft. The fishing vessel "Equity" was completely submerged at the time of the rescue. The crew of the "Equity" were transported back to Craig. No injuries were reported and no medical attention was required. AST would like to thank Klawock Search and Rescue, the Craig Harbor Department and the good Samaritan vessel "High Pocket" for their assistance during the search and rescue. The vehicle was pulled over for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed that Sean Maynard, age 26 of Ketchikan was in possession of Marijuana and paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Maynard was issued a summons at the scene to appear in court for Misconduct Involving a Control led Substance in the 6th Degree. Investigation revealed Crystal Dietz, age 27, of Palmer was operating a 1992 Mercury Sable northbound on the Glenn Highway when she lost control of the vehicle and subsequently rear ended a 2005 Chevrolet Impala being operated by Mark Bramblett, age 45, of Wasilla. Dietz was issued a citation for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and her vehicle was towed from the scene. Both drivers reported wearing their seatbelts and sustained no injuries in the collision. While on scene, State Troopers contacted a 17-year-old female, who attempted to fight State Troopers on scene. The female was subsequently placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and was remanded into custody at the Mat-Su Youth Facility. Investigation determined Craig Riley, age 50 of Big Lake assaulted a family member by means of a dangerous instrument. Further investigation revealed Riley was in possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Riley was arrested and remanded into custody at Matsu Pretrial and held without bail. Investigation has determined George Houghton, 53, of Big Lake was northbound on the Parks Highway when he crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head on with Tom Anderson, 68, of Wasilla who was traveling southbound in his 1988 Ford F250. Anderson attempted to take evasive action, but was unable to avoid the collision. Two other vehicles slid into crash scene, but sustained minor damage. Anderson and Houghton were transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries. The roadway where the crash occurred was closed, but an alternative route was used to divert traffic around the area shortly after the collision. Anderson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision, however, troopers have not been able to verify if Houghton was wearing one. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision. Investigation is continuing. AK Bureau of Investigation ------------------------------------------------- Location: Juneau Case number: AK12246940 Type: Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II Text: On 12-13-12, at approximately 1510 hours, the Alaska Bureau of Investigation's Southeast Alaska Cities against Drugs (SEACAD) task force with assistance from the Juneau Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit, the FBI and the Alaska Wildlife Troopers executed a search warrant on a residence located on Kanat'a Deyi Street. During the course of searching the residence six "One Pot" method methamphetamine labs and precursors associated with those labs were located inside of the residence. Investigators from SEACAD processed the lab and contacted the owners of the residence. Charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II will be forwarded to the Juneau District Attorney's Office against the owners of the residence.
